You know how my week has gone..

You know how we often say how fast the weeks are going by (- if you don't then you aren't reading WOYWW blogs very often).  I know that it's not true to say it, and it often drives me made when people use 'literally' to illustrate their point.  But really, this week has literally gone faster than any other, ever.
Oh look, here's Birthday week gal Helen, at MY workdesk...day before the WOYWW crop.

You know how I may have bragged a little about being Mr Dunnit's apprentice?  Well, I'm enjoying it.  But today, after a lot of labouring on site, and refusing tea and biscuits from the lovely client, I am absolutely cream crackered. I dried out after all the rain, my hair looks somewhat bedraggled and my arms hurt just to type.  I may have to go to bed very very early.

You know how your grown up kid goes away for a few days and you think it will be nice to ccok some of the meals that she doesn't like and have quality time just the two of you.  And your routine stays so utterly the same that her absence is to be honest, barely noticeable until you actually manage to think about real cooking - to welcome her home.

You know how a crafting deadline appears to be a motivation.  It so works.  Just one card behind now, and I'm erm...back at square one.

You know how you get a feeling that all is not well while you're rushing to do the die cutting stuff for a workshop.  And then something gives and the plates are stuck with a die between them in the rollers and the handle won't turn.  And then it does turn but doesn't operate the rollers any more.  You may not know that horrible feeling that you've broken your Big Shot.  I do.  I so do.

You know that ironing board is really annoying now.  It's been left, quite deliberately, in my line of vision as I enter the lounge room. I'm thinking that I may put it away before I've actually finished the ironing.  After all, stuff on my desk may sit, hidden in plain sight for months, but this reminder of domestic inadequacy is doing my head in!

These are the stamps that were partly visible on my desk  last week...Dolly Mamas by Penny Black.  Still love them..must be 10 years old by now!
You know how you feel a bit guilty that you've only visited a fraction of work desks this week and want to see more?  Oh yeah.  We all know that!

You know how you think it will be nice to catch up on emails and calls over the weekend and take some time to connect - see if there's anybody still forgiving enough to want to talk? And then your husband asks you to help him on site again in the morning.  And how can you say no.  Really, to those eyes and that lovely smile.  Argh.

You know you've had a week, when you realise you're talking it through with a computer.

I hope you have a marvellous weekend!

  3. Ah, but you're not really talking to a computer, there are people out there who think you are doing great work. WOYWW for a start! It's made me, for one, really feel connected to other crafters so Thank You, Julia for working so hard. Sorry if it sounds a bit of a platitude but all your hard work must make a huge difference to a lot of people's lives. Julie Ann x

  5. Eek, there I am again, working at your desk! My week hasn't quite turned out how it was meant to either, bet you can guess what didn't happen today.... Hope you kick the ironing into touch, or if not, wear it wrinkled.... sorry to hear about the big shot, I do hope Sizzix replace it for you. I am sure it's lovely having Miss D back, have a cracking (sorry, shouldn't have used that word in light of the BS tragedy!) weekend. xxx

  7. Amen!
But then again... you're NOT talking to a computer - but to many crazy crafters and artists who probably feel the same way. Ahhhhh, isn't that good to know ;)
I hope you have a restful weekend!

  8. You are not chatting to your computer...you are venting...as you are allowed...hell no...I mean encouraged...by all your lovely, supportive followers.

Perhaps your DH could take a peek at your Big Shot....perhaps something has come loose...yep, it's a screw loose kinda thing!

All kidding aside, you are a good partner to be there helping in the shop, even when your arms hurt, even when it is your day off...Bravo you!

  11. Worn out reading this week of yours. Was a bit confused seeing Helen on your blog too. I popped round to see her today and we had some giggles and I rummaged through her mega stash (well just a corner really!) Better get on with my WOYWW replies now. Oh and saw your article in the mag too as Helen has a copy. Lucky me BJ

Monical is right Julia..chocolate and a glass of bubbly usually does the trick for me.
    Domestic inadequacy ..NO NO!!
Oh Deaer- reduced to talking things over with the computer..sigh.Have our lives come to this.
yesterday, I found a little box of chocolates in my letter box. I was that thrilled, you'd think I'd been given $100.00!! Hope some small happy thing comes your way this weekend.
I loathe ironing, so I tackle it straight away, and then it's not there to haunt me.
Thanks for the lovely comment on my flowers Julia. We love ya!!
Your post made me smile- I could relate to it so well!!

  17. Oh girl you need a night on the town. Or a visit to a wine cellar. I'd be devastated if my big shot quit on me. But the 5 cute Dolly's are a fun view. Ironing, not in my vocabulary, I just use the board when I need extra space, sometimes subs as a serving cart. Hoping you have a fun weekend.

  18. I've had a disappearing week too - what happened?

We keep saying - oh when the kids are older and leave home/go on sleep overs etc etc we wont bother with cooking dinners we'll have cheese and crackers and wine on little old people fold up tables in front of the TV... we look forward to those days . I hate cooking dinners.

And I keep getting tempted to play at WOYWW but then remember I only ever used to manage to return visits and maybe a couple more and felt so guilty at that and then I don't play but then I do miss it - so I may just jump in again.

Have an amazing RELAXING weekend Julia :)

  20. My goodness! Please try and find the time to take a break - it will do you good!! Alcohol and something yummy and naughty will help too! xx

  21. I so know what you mean you Julia, I too have also broken my Bigshot in the past as well. I also find that wine & chocolate solve most problems in life or at least it helps put them to the back of mind until I can deal with them lol.

  23. So sorry your week went like that! Major ugh about the BS, too...perhaps this means you can get a bigger one, the Pro?! Just look at it as an opportunity to shop! :) Hope you have had a fabulous and much better weekend. And for sure I would put that stupid ironing board away...actually I would throw it away! But that's probably just me. ;) Hugs dear and, even though I was out of town and couldn't participate last week, thank you for taking the time to hostess WOYWW every week. We do love you! :)

  25. Sounds familiar ....... Was having a Saturday something like that all rush rush then sent hubby to put shopping in the car which he did and locked keys in the boot!!!!! Had to wait two hours for RAC man to arrive and retrieve keys in two minutes!!!!!! Then behind on all planned events had to rush rush to get to where I had ordered some food before shop closed and pick up order!!!!!!!! Then got to D D house to feed her cats as she was away and had been given a wrong key from friend who was now in London so could not go and get right key..... Now imagining cats dead from starvation , that's silly as they were meowing at me from other side of door and jumping up at letter box for attention as they were hungry!!!!!!!! Then had to phone another family member who had a key to bring there's round but they were on there way to the coast and had to turn back to drive to me with key so I could feed the cats !!!!!!!!! Of course before this I had bought some yummy posh ice cream and put it in the cool box but that was now well over an hour ago and it needed to get home ASAP!!!!!!!

  27. Oh dear Julia - that was the week that was! So sorry.
Thanks for the message tonight - I felt like I was having a bad week in the space of half a day. Who want a blog anyway? Was ready for throwing the "blogging" towel in!

Maybe tomorrow will be the start of a good week?????

    Hugs, Neet xx

  28. I like to think you are talking to "us", not just your computer :)
Don't bother with the "special" meals ... cheese on toast with champagne works here :)
Ironing! Huh! I iron five business shirts each week, usually one each day because of the boredom factor, and my short attention span :)!

  29. I love those stamps! They are so much more interesting than most of what is around these days.

  30. Poor Julia, I know most of those feelings too, but fortunately not the one about breaking the Bigshot. And I bet that Mr D really doesn't understand how much you are struggling with life, the universe and everything, so he ignores it and just asks for more help. Sounds just like my Mr D. So many good qualities but empathy was not handed out to him. Hope you are managing to get on top of things now.

  31. Oh, but you're not talking it through with a computer, dear Julia, you are talking it through with your friends. You see? Look at all the loving comments of support and empathy that poured in. It's a wonderful place for sharing all the "you know hows" that we've all had happen. I hope next week is a better one for you and that you get more of that one-on-one time with Those Eyes and That Smile!!

  32. After hitting publish, I started scrolling down the previous comments ... what fun to see how like-minded we are, but then that's not uncommon either among friends!!
