H2Overload

We had a fun coupla workshops yesterday, and even if the cards weren't what they liked, the workshopeers seemed to enjoy using the H20s as much as I do (and the Cosmic Shimmer equivalents, let's not be biased...I like 'em all!).  One of the reasons is probably because they do what they say - paint.  Add water, mix to a thick opaque consistency or keep 'em dreamy and watercoloury - ultimately they're paint.  I don't use Copics very well because there are techniques and things to learn that I think are almost too much for me - changing the way I 'colour' after all these years has proven very difficult!
The butterflies were die cut, dragged through the paint mixed from two colours on a palette.  A glass mat, blobby board or any other non porous surface will work..just use it to mix, work up a puddle and drag....heat set and then emboss with the die for detail.  If you like.  (The die is by Joy Crafts).

And here's the water colour-y effect...emboss the image in white or clear powder, blob on water and then bob on paint.  Sometimes you have to dab with a tissue.  Most times if you're me, because I have no 'lightness of touch' about me. (Image by Stampendous used here)

I might show you the other two cards.  This is not a tease.  I can't find them right now and   any delay in my thought process means I'm likely to forget.  I think it may well be time to tidy up properly. It's driving me mad, so it must be time.
Have a lovely weekend.

  6. Those butterflies are alb fab! Loe the techniques you talk about and now am going to go off and try them both.
I am a life-long fan of H2o's and am always reaching for them. I too cannot get on with the Copics/Promarkers of this world - give me a paintbrush and I am happy.
Thanks for being like me re this
    Hugs, Neet xx

  9. These are so dreamy lovely! I giggle at your colour thing because I find it easier to colour with Copics than I do with H2O's, I get lost in the dreamy swirl of colour that mine ends up looking mud or like a blob that's not artistic at all! I suppose it's what comes naturally. I will bring some Copics to the crop so am happy to show anyone who wants to see how I colour with Copics. Take care Zo xx

  10. Oh how fun!!!! I think I will have to look into those sometime. As it is, I already have so many tools and whatnots that I need to use and experiment with already, that I best not add to the collection right now, lol!

  15. Awesome! Just pure Awesome! Now I can do copics, and I LOVE H20's, but I can't seem to 'get the knack' with the Twinklers. I get the paste way too thick or way too thin, never get a satisfactory result. So I'm really admiring these cards. You did both effects most beautifully, and lovely cards too! The embossing was just more icing on the ...guess I better say Butterflies instead of cake! TFS

  16. These are lovely Julia-I went to a convention today and there was the h20 booth. I have tons of them stuck in my closet-might have to get them out after seeing your lovely butterflies. Have you seen the more liquid paint tubs they make too? Interesting indeed!

  18. Oooh, you just can't go wrong with H2Os! I love them to bits! All the colours are gorgeous and of course, they all have a touch of 'bling' which I love!
I don't start tidying up 'til my head starts spinning and stuff falls off the edge of my kitchen counter, oops, "workspace" :)

  20. Hi Julia, I like both cards, they're beautiful, but it is the blobby technique I want to try sometime. Love the gorgeous colours you've used too - I would have enjoyed playing with those H2Os. Elizabeth xx

  21. Love the verdigris effect on the butterflies. Never use H2Os or the other one you mentioned. I don't do well with promarkers, but then I never liked felt tips as a child. I like to 'colour in' with Distress inks and a water brush :o)

  25. Your workshop sounds lots of fun, Julia. I love H20's and all the other makes, like you say, they are equal in what they do.
Love the white embossed blobby technique. I haven't seen that before so am off to have a play.

  26. Hi Julia,

Love both of these cards! I'm so glad you told us about embossing in white -- I saw something similar and wondered how that effect was done!

I still need to visit some WOYWW desks -- and it's Sunday here.

    Hugs,
    Kay

  35. Love these butterflies!!! I'm looking at the H20s on Amazon and most of them are listed as watercolors. Is that what you used?
