Well, quite a lot of you asked. So now I've finished dithering and such, here is the LO I was working on yesterday. There's a tag behind the photo on the left (which is why there's a bunch of ribbon sticking out of the top of it. I gave the photo and extra 'topping' of the mat paper to prevent it being too damaged by the tag being over zealously returned.
The main interest really is that this paper is from a new line by Kaiser Craft called 'Forget me Not' and it's really very nice. Indeed, I had to have the collection pack instead of the individual sheets. I suspect that I will replace the two sheets that this LO has taken too, I can feel the need welling up in me. This LO is actually to illustrate the first scrapbook 'know how' session that I'm conducting at Kraft Crazy next month. My thinking is that it's a difficult thing to 'teach'.so I'm providing notes and a glossary, and a couple of different styles of LO for people to have a go at. When I first started scrapbooking, these large patterns and corner placements frightened me to death. Now I find them useful for a quick LO. And the second LO will be a much plainer affair with some splodges and inking occuring....nothing like a contrast when you try out new stuff! What do you think - in terms of a workshop - helpful or just hideously confusing? Don't be too honest, I might cry.
See, it's when I see gorgeous layouts like this I think - I should try this scrapbook malarky! It looks gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely a beautiful layout! That paper is lovely - can see why you're planning replacing it! Chrisx
ReplyDeleteI have never been to a workshop but I reckon lots of choices are good. Everyone should be encouraged to try new things in the safety of having an instructor there to give ideas. xx Maggie PS don't cry!
ReplyDeleteI would love to do this class! You would have me there just with the mention of ink...
ReplyDeleteThat is lovely. I've never really done scrapbooking. A bit of a pathetic attempt a long, long time ago and would feel very embarrassed by it now. I think your ideas for the class are very good. Anne x
ReplyDeleteHuge corner patterns still frighten me... I love the way you used them, I might give it a try!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your workshop! =)
Hi Julia, you have made me want to do a LO after seeing this gorgeous one..... I am in love with Kaisercraft papers and am so impressed that you actually used a sheet of it! I buy two each of the sheets I like and then will not use either........ Hugs, Anne x
ReplyDeleteHi Julia,
ReplyDeleteI love your layout, those papers are really lovely I don't remember seeing that range when I have been scrap shopping....
Your photos are lovely where were those taken?
Hope you have a great weekend, are you getting a lot of snow where you are?

Beautiful! This is Turkey, yes? Because I'm maybe going there in March, to Antalya . . .
ReplyDeleteThe whole two blog thing is kind of throwing me, Julia, not gonna lie . . .
Happy WOYWW!

and a little late!
Your LO turned out so beautiful! I love those decorative corner pages for quick type LOs, they come in real handy!!
ReplyDeleteThis is jus gorgeous and so are the photos! Love the look of these papers and i can see why you want ot replace them!
ReplyDeleteWish i lived closer to take the class...
Oh it's gorgeous, I now 'get' corner placement papers when the pattern is rather big and large (and easy to cut round), but I've got a couple which have two fine a detail and they are driving me nuts!
ReplyDeleteWell I think it is beautiful and not not overwhelmeing or outrageous, just perfect, I am sure you class will go well. The paper is just gorgeous and I love the placement of the crowns too.

Hi Julia, now this layout was well worth waiting for - I like that paper ... a lot! Lovely colours and the 'queen bee' motif is great. I'd say that I'd enjoy a workshop on this layout - it's got matting, embellishment clustering, the journaling tag - lots to learn there. I used to be scared of papers like this too so kept them just for stroking :) However, now that I've got over my fear of cutting into it, I'm happy to scrap away with them or fussy cut the flowers and use them as embellishments on a layout. Elizabeth xx
ReplyDeletePS: did you stand on a chair to take the photo?
Third time is a charm...hope it posts this time or I give up. Just wanted to say that the layout is awesome. I like the tag behind the photo but how do you see it without pulling it out of the protective sleeve? Do you cut a flap or window in the sleeve? Love Kaiser Craft papers and the store where I teach just started carrying them! Yay! Looking forward to more! VIckie
ReplyDeleteJulie a very celver lesson plan...i am sure it will be very useful for the newbies and it will also encourage the older scrappers to try something new.....lovely l.O. by the way.
ReplyDeleteLove this page. I really like the idea of cutting into the paper to integrate the photo with the paper. Also the idea to hide the journalling is good. Sometimes I shy away from journalling anything as embarrassed of demonstrating feelings. (Big gruff Glaswegian here :-( )
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas for a class.
Thanks for visiting.
I am still trying to get round everyone. How do people do it?
Thank you, Julia, for welcoming me on WOYWW. I must learn a lot from others. Especially to make some order when I photograph. But maybe I am no different from others: When I am working I am making kind of swim movements to be able to go on with my creations and sweep away things which gathered on my small working space. No matter how large or small it is - I am happy there.
ReplyDeleteA very interesting transition Julia from desk to complete item, just love those photos
ReplyDelete... and teaching scrap booking well never done it but guess would not be different with most things and think your ideas will work a treat..
- thanks for your always welcome comment on wrong post - had left visitors briefly to link on laptop and in my haste did not realise it was my Black and yellow card from ten days ago, instead of WOYWW post.
As 75% of folk did same as you so could almost reuse it next week :D thanks for sharing, Shaz in Oz.x
Lovely LO Julia, The paper is very elegant looking .
ReplyDeleteLovely layout and super workshop. I love corner sheets with big designs. I think people are scared to snip into them as they are usually so beautiful. Thanks for visiting me. It's my birthday today and I am hosting a virtual birthday party on my blog if you would like to pop by for a piece of cake! Lol, jenx
ReplyDeleteOh boy, I don't scrapbook...but papercraft...love the LO....now, ya know, it took me a while to figure out what was low on the page...I read and re-read, then decided to read the comments because I felt so dumb....then a light turned on. LO=Layout....
ReplyDeleteNow, that I can converse with you.....I love the colors and how you placed all the objects around the pattern on the paper! I think it would be a great class...I never use those papers and try not to buy them....an order just came in and I tried out cutting the page up USING those large patterns in the paper and you know what...I quite holding my breath...it was easier.....now, I did not put this together, until I read this post....someone else mentioned doing the fussy cutting of those patterns....love how all this "stuff transfers to card making AND altering objects...with paper...Thank you so much...learned what a LO was..and put together what I did physically with the REASON why behind it today....
I so love the little banners at the top right and the way the flower comes over the edge of the photo at the bottom.. Great font on your words works all really well.. Will have to keep my eye out for this paper.. I use a lot of Kaisercraft stuff as its made locally to me..
ReplyDeleteSandy :)
