WOYWW 179

What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday. That's what the annoyingly difficult to pronounce acronym stands for.  And thanks for asking.
Rubbish lighting.  November's calendar is printed out ready for me to make a LO for the magnetic frame that hangs in the hall chez Dunnit.  It's too late for the first two appointments of the month. Under that, and the spare sandwich plate for my Big Shot (I don't know why) is 4 newly prepared die storage sheets.  That's sticky back magnetic sheets stuck on A4 sheets of chipboard to you.  They go into a magazine file for relatively easy flicking through.  Not that I'm expecting to buy so many new dies all at once you understand.  Under them are some Christmas stamps that Shopkeeper Gal thought I could use in a workshop.  That remains to be seen. At left is a new toy to try out - a label maker from Artemio...does upper and lower case and is better priced than the traditional Dymo machines, so I'll report back....at some stage.   There's still an unused reindeer stamp.  And because the instruction 'pull out and keep' is printed on it, there's a section from this month's craft stamper on the ipad's deckchair  - it contains ideas for using the free cover stamp. The deckchair, to answer a few enquiries, is called a 'Bookchair' and came from Waterstones or Borders a handful of years ago. It isn't a Mac product.   Strangely, the two pots of chewing gum have morphed into one, in a siamese style gesture...I suspect one of my lovelies has been rummaging.  And why wouldn't you - there's no actual work going on that's for sure.
Incidentally, I've been flagging up that Jan and I were going to the Craft Hobby and Stitch show at the NEC this Friday with the hope of meeting anyone that may be doing the same, but we've had a change of plan.  Perhaps the March/April date will prove a better date.
Meanwhile, show us what you're up to on your craft surface of choice - upload a pic to your blog, put WOYWW in your post title and link up here. Reciprocal visits are polite.  Enjoyment guaranteed.  How could you resist?!

  1. Interesting desk this week, your Craft Stamper pull out has reminded me that I asked Andrew to pick up some mags whilst in England, no doubt he's put them away for stocking stuffers!! I've only ever managed to use one of my Papermania stamps, they seem to be one of those things that look great but are hard to use!

  3. Hi Julia,

Lots of fun things on your desk this week! As for mine, well, I showed my Craft Sale table instead. I've been stashing around my crafting supplies while tidying up my little place. Hoping to sell and get into something bigger -- with a designated craft room! Woo Hoo!!!

  8. Watching the election coverage on AljAzeera so wide awake ... For now. Wanted to say I loved Miss Dunnit's costume. I can't recall if that labeller is the one I have but I am too lazy to go look. Does it have interchangeable wheels? Sorry, I keep getting distracted, I've been working on this comment for 15 minutes! Giving up, you'll get no sense out of me tonight.....

  24. I am impressed that you do up each months calendar as the month comes along! I fairly frequently am two months behind on turning the pages on mine! Only thing keeping me current lately is so many medical appts that i am actually using the calendar instead of memory! Which is going along with all else LOL Hope to get around a bit more this week.. 27. Love to see that your desk is as "tidy" as mine. I bought my very first stamp and ink pad the other day. See what a bad influence you all are on me. Next thing you know I'll be sewing!!! (eek).
The stamp is one of those page of writing things. I hope to use it as a background. Here's hoping the ink gets on the page and not me.
    Have a great week.

Thank you, as always! Also, I enjoyed the pic below of the finished extraordinary costumes!! Hearts, Darnell #42 (at the moment)

  34. I'm glad I'm not playing in WOYWW because I can't see the Linky Links. That's nothing. I can't see the ones I created and put on MY blog!! I'm starting to HATE blogger.

I'll be interested to see how your label maker fares. I've had three Dymos and two of them have broken. None are the same size either. There's something to say for consistency and interchangeability.

    ReplyDelete
  35. 'How could you resist?' - well I couldn't, never can. Think I may have to look out for a book-stand, very cute and I can dream of summer in a deckchair in the midst of winter. Lots to see this week Julia, as usual, and a reminder that I have a label maker tucked away somewhere....if only I knew where.

  36. Morning Julia - that tip about putting the magnetic stuff onto chipboard is very useful. I was wondering how to stop them being all floppy! I am relatively new to collecting these thin metal dies but You can never start early enough with a good storage system! You have also reminded me I haven't flicked through my Craft Stamper this month - no where did put it!!? Happy WOYWW to you from Helen 56

  38. I spotted a stand like yours at WHSmiths, in case anyone is looking for one.

I'm also interested in the label maker. I love the Dymo ones, but they don't have the right punctuation. Is a question mark really too much to ask for?

As to the die holders, well Christmas is coming up. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

  43. Happy WOYWW. A lovely busy desk as always. I have a label maker, but only used it a couple of times. My excuse is that I am waiting to move to my new craft room, when everything will be moved into new storage, so not worth labelling boxes etc now (that is my story and I am sticking to it). Shame you will not be at the NEC, but I am hoping to go on Thursday, so we would have missed each other anyway! Ali x #58 (I think)

  91. Hi Julia, finally reporting in ... had a busy morning and I don't know where the time has gone! I think that we are going to have 'rubbish lighting' from here on in until it's Spring again ... well, here in Scotland certainly :( I've just pinched/borrowed the EM's labelmaker and the replacement tapes are soooo expensive, however the jobs a tidy one, that's compared to my usual handwritten labels. Hope your day has gone well. Elizabeth x #75

PS: I can't get over how much Miss D is the very image of you ... my daughter looks absolutely nothing like me!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Wow! Cheaper than a Dymo? Mine cost £4.99! I like the look of the different coloured tapes and I'm wondering if they are interchangeable. Still liking the little reindeer too.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Thanks for the advice re Little miss C...she so loves WOYWW...another couple of years and she can leave her own comments!
I will try your inking method. it is funny cuz I was sort of thinking the same about the right hand over pressure. The worst thing is I like my whites to match so was stamping of 50 cent copic paper and ruining them...ugggggh. I haven't stamped for awhile as well...and it does seem rusty at first and then you get into the swing of it again.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Sorry you are missing out on the NEC - thought I might meet you there. The magnetic sheets for storing dies sounds like a good idea - it would be useful to have them all in one place. I think I've seen the book deckchair thing recently in 'Lakeland' if anybody is looking for one,
    Bernice #123

    Bridget # 8

    ReplyDelete
  97. ah now see you have given me an idea, if you follow written instructions so easily (pull out and keep) I, for sure, am making you a

    DESK SIGN:
    that says

"Sit or Stand HERE, close mouth, switch off easily distracted brain, switch on Focus Brain - now CRAFT,
    Please DO NOT
    a) pick up the phone,
    b) decide you urgently need to do something
    c) consult LLJ or SKG for advice...."

and by golly a new desk type shall emerge

( on second thoughts stay just how you are cos that's what i love...I'll send the sign and I want you to scrawl over it in big black marker pen a suitable comment such as ('expletive' OFF Doone....)

    ReplyDelete
  98. Very busy desk as always! I love your idea of the die keepers..I assume form the spellbinders type and not the movers and shaker type? I had made a frame, but it's getting full, and I don't have enough wall space for another...I might just be borrowing your great idea!
    Have a great week.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Are you implying I should get to work on my November calendar then?

Or maybe just my WOYWW post?

    I'd rather just sit here.

Well, I'd rather not just sit here but that's all my painful lower back will let me do, although it is being snarky enough that it might not even let me sit soon. Crappy thing. I'm so looking for a new one on eBay.

    ReplyDelete
  100. for some silly reason I am still giggling over the morphed gum boxes! I just found out (and bought) the same brand has a new economical size refill for that box of 180 bits. Yum! Lovely looking desk this week with all the fun new toys. I think I am going to try the magnetic sheets for dies. Mine are taking up too much space in plastic boxes! Have a great week! Vickie #77

  106. Well, late as usual this week, but after being super early last week, does it average out?

It seems my lighting is always rubbish, Julia . . . oh, fun, a label maker and lots of colored tapes--yay for you!

    :)

  110. Always love your desk. Lots going on. I was a day late ha, and a dollar short this week. Went back to work, got up this morning and realized it was Thursday, ran and took a pic and posted. Oh to get in the swing of things again.

  111. The label maker was the first thing I spotted! I had an electronic one that ate batteries and I've been looking for a replacement! One day...

  112. Oh Dear...

I completely forgot to leave a message when I linked up on Wednesday morning. I hadn't slept all night so I did my post (between little nods) and finally posted, then fell to sleep... Darren left me there so I didn't get up then until nearly lunch - but still less sleep that the 8-10 hours I used to have when I was working full time! I digress... Nice variety of stuff on your desk. Also - nice to hear that you are not now going to NEC until March - I actually might be able to make that one - if I sell enough cards first though! I am striving to have some outlets soon...

hope you are well - I have a weekly planner that I laminated and write on with dry wipe markers. Mine line is usually blank apart from my mums doc appointments! It is a help although there is less going on these days - I'm just about remembering which days the boys are and aren't at college. Good idea - everyone should have one...

    big hugs
