It's that time already..
Here's a card that's been caught in a photo of my desk earlier this month. That was when I was working ahead and thinking how great I was. Pride comes before the fall, and of course, I'm not great and indeed, I'm a little behind. Christmas Cards. Do 'em for private use, or don't do 'em. Whichever way I go, the decision has to be made this week. After all, they need posting or delivering in about 4 weeks, otherwise it's not worth the effort. Is it? This Thursday I conduct the first of quite a few Christmas card workshops - which is why this card is already made. And I'm showing you because it ain't exactly a lesson in technique so I figure no-one will be cheated by seeing it earlier! It's the Tim Holtz Christmas foliage die and a Tim Holtz Heart die too....cut from grunge paper and inked and sprayed with glittery shiny stuff. See, I can use the TH stuff, it just doesn't involve much grungy art in my hands. I used iddy bits of ribbon for holly berries just to keep on with the dimension thing. That's the thing about my workshops see. I don't really bother about your difficulty or cost in posting them..that's kinda not my problem. Obviously, if you don't want dimension, you will choose a one layer card workshop, or stick everything flat and that will be the gorgeous free will in action. Meantime, silicone glue and foam pads are my glues of choice. You may want to track the number of sprayed sparkly and shiny elements I use this month....the spray smells wonderful!
Love the card, need to start mine too, but I'm hoping I have a few leftover from last year :D
ReplyDeleteLovely card.....smelling glue eh? Try leather glue! ;)

Bugger I've not even given Xmas cards a thought -that will be last minute again then, just like last year x
ReplyDeleteOoh love that Julia. I'm off cards right now 'cause I've discovered tags!

Your card is beautiful Julia. Need to get started too. Hugs Rita xx
ReplyDeleteJULIA ... They are talking about WOYWW on the radio right now ... did you know? Am trying to find details. Debbie xXx
ReplyDeleteReally wonderful card - I sat looking at my desk last night trying to force myself to start Christmas cards - no mood at all - even though we have loads of snow - huh!!!
ReplyDeleteWell maybe today I will start...
Lots of hugs,
Cardarian
Don't know any details, but I have just been told that they are talking about WOYWW on the radio. I have now been updated by Debbie (Tattered Rocks) who has apparently emailed you with the info. Incidentally, whenever I do any online voting for the craft mag thingies, I always put WOYWW as the best crafting blog. Fame at last, and well deserved, Julia. xx Maggie
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I do dimensional cards if they don't have to go in the post.... being a cheapskate! Not that I've done any more since the Crop.... oops 4 weeks you say... hmmm!!!
ReplyDeleteOh thanks for the close-up as I particularly love this card and how you used the heart with the winter foliage. BJ
ReplyDeleteNice die! A very effective card that Julia.
ReplyDeleteLovely card!
ReplyDeleteI make both flatish and dimensional cards at Xmas. I hand deliver a lot of the really dimensional cards ut at the Christmas parties that occur during the season. All our family and friends do this...I guess we are all cheapskates!
Wowser, fabby card there Julia! You could do what I did last year, made cards for folk who would appreciate a hand crafted card and bought a load for others - then everyone's happy :) Even you, high on the glue! Still waiting to hear more about this radio slot - which I missed of course :( Di xx
ReplyDeleteI usually get into Christmas the day before. I prefer to do the Solstice idea as I like the idea of woad, women and wine in a wild bacchanalia as the sun peaks through through rocks. AH HA i can hear it now, the sun, what sun, it's December.
ReplyDeleteI am too busy using spray glitters and sparkly bits to count yours as well. I like the smell too, although DH complains it stinks the whole house out. Are we addicted, do you think? I must own up to having made all my Christmas cards, and they just need their inserts and envelopes and stamps (that is scary - need a new mortgage for that). The only reason I have done them was taking part in the Rudolph challenge this year and getting a bit carried away. Good luck with your workshops. xx Maggie
ReplyDeleteYey - you've started. So have I. I've made one. Only because I was playing with a freebie I downloaded. My dilema is - do I go all out or do I design digitally? Hmm... this year I'm favouring the latter.
ReplyDeleteI love how you say that dimension and the cost of posting is 'their problem'. Exactly what I would think, only may be too afraid to say - big up to you...
squishy christmas squeezes (or is that squirmy)?
hugs

OMG - Just read about the radio mention... which channel - who was the presenter - what was the reason... I need to get the podcast of the show. Fab. TV next Julia? I'll see if I can get an email read out on C&C dropping in a mention of WOYWW... that would be funny! (or not?). Lots of WOYWWers watch I think. I get my emails read out often - sometimes with a picture or two of Buddy. I won a tassel recently on the show with Gina who does all the buttons and tassels. I sent a pic of our tassel tie back he'd demolished - and a picture of 'butter wouldn't melt' Buddy...
ReplyDeleteJust thought i'd say....

This is the first time I've been able to leave a comment on your blog in over a week. I still can't leave one on any blog with enabled comments. Since I'm having such a difficult time leaving comments, I can't play along in WOYWW until I can figure out what the problem is.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I love that card. I like how you used the ribbon as holly berries. Quite clever.
I have a few spray mists, but mine don't smell, good or otherwise. Are you sure you haven't been sniffing glue (grin)?
Gorgeous card Julia, I keep meaning to design my cards but it hasn't happened yet.

OMGosh! Tis the season for getting Christmas cards started, and yours is great. I love all the 3D aspects and who doesn't love to play with TH dies and spray glitter? I've been working on gifts for the family and need to start getting some cards made too. I even heard Christmas music in one store already!?? Now that is a tad too early for me.....LOL
ReplyDeleteHuffing the glue fumes! I see how you are. I may have to try it. It might make the holidays more bearable.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder about all these fabulous dimensional cards that are popular these days. My theory is they are for show only--no posting.
well its a beautiful and I like the sounds of your teaching skills, don't you be smelling that glue! Lol, you'll go all wonky on us!
ReplyDeleteI so glad to be back blogging, my blog crashed and I had to start a new one!I have rejoined so I won't miss your posts!
Love your card Julia, I have this die but I always seem to have problems when it comes to cutting it, it never seems to cut out the pieces properly any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?
ReplyDeleteLovely cards yet again. Happy WOYWW.Sandy Dallas
