What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 163

I'm not here today.  It doesn't mean that my desk is clear, tidy or clean.  It just means that there's not a lot going on...so I thought you may like to see the swing to the left.

I can reach all this from where I sit, but to use the Big Shot, I do have to get off my erm, stool. It looks tidy from the height of the worktop...but in a photo - ach.  So you see the pots of embossing powder on the top left, and in order under that shelf are inkpads...per shelf - Distress inks/stains and Stazon, then pigment ink pads, then Fluid Chalk ink pads and on the botom shelf, two baskets - one with dye ink pads and one with Brilliance ink pads. yes, I love 'em all.  The white drawers at right are full of embellishments, tape, tools and apparently loads of stuff I need.  I might open them and photo them one day.  I might clear them out one day..they'll probably condense into two sensible sizes!  At the time of building this room, I thought this would be a great storage solution, but actually, I prefer the baskets on shelves, more portable and I do move stuff a lot - to crops, workshops etc.
The toy boxes at right under the desk are a necessary evil, they store the sort of multiples that you need for doing 'event' days...multiple heat guns, paper to protect tables, light boxes, paper trimmers..you know.  It's a bit over exposed in the corner, but that's my scrap paper boxes and you can just see the open needle case and WOYWW baby wipe cover from Jo and Annie at Sister's Crafty Creations...the needle case is full of decorative pins which I like to look at.  I'm not great at using them...obviously.  So there we have it, a bit more of my favourite room.
Show us what you're doing this week, post a photo on you blog, put WOYWW in your post title and link it here...fascinating stuff.

  5. It's strange how our ideas of perfect storage change. I love your black cubes on the wall. I also like the look of your table leg. Nice to see a fancier table than my own. Good luck if you choose to sort your drawers out.

  8. Cor!! #4! Never been this high up the list before! (Was hoping for #1 but you can't have everything!)

Love the alternative view of your desk, Julia. You might start a trend! Usually the rest of my ARTHaven, away from my desk, is a total tip!!

Thanks for letting me publicise Shoshi's Blog Shop on WOYWW! Much appreciated. (Anyone interested - it's on one of my new tabs at the top of my blog.)

Hope to do a bit better visiting desks this week - however hard I try, I never seem to manage to visit very many.

Anyone else reading this, who has agreed to swap ATCs with me and hasn't yet sent me their address, please do - your ATCs are here eagerly waiting to be sent off to you!

Happy WOYWW to everyone, and especially to you Julia, and thanks again for all you do for us - the friendships and inspiration that arise from WOYWW are beyond price.

  9. I think you are right about little containers you can pull out and move from place to place. But I also like those pull out drawers. Of course, I've changed my craft room so many times it isn't funny. Especially after I realize that something didn't work as I had planned. Sometimes you have to live with something for awhile before you realize you don't like it. I Do like how you have the paint stored. And you can see the color at a glance, too. Happy WOYWW from #1 this week.

  11. Storage - always likelooking for new ideas, I'm resigned to redistributing everything once a year. The trouble with putting htings away is they never get used. Like you, I need to have as much as possible within reach, to avoid getting up off my, er, stool. Happy WOYWW Cindy

  12. Nice! Even your heat gun has committed suicide rather than keep looking at that mess!! I'm allowed to be pious, I cleaned up the other week!! Hope wherever you are the sun's shining!

  16. I'm out and about today so just managed to grab a seat and pop into WOYWW for a peek!
Thanks for showing this angle of your special room...it all looks so crafty and full of goodies. I'd love to spend awhile snooping in all the boxes, drawers and pots...but then I suppose that's going a little too far...and maybe a little creepy?
Have a fantastic week Julie and thanks for letting us have a great time tootling about each other's desks. It's such fun! :D

  34. A swing to the left sounds very political to me! It all looks so neat and tidy from this angle but I do have concerns about your heat gun and hope it always gets unplugged for safety.
We thought of you often last week as WOYWW brought three of us together for a wonderful crafty time in Slovenia!

  38. Wow, now that's a swing to the left. You have been keeping all those goodies a secret all this time. So many things to play with and I always thought an ink pad was just an ink pad but you have opened up a whole new world for me. Shows how crafty I am, I thought the heat gun was a hair dryer, wondered why it was hanging there :) Will have to sneak some time to look around the other desks as I still have my visitor here.
    Have a great week.

I do thank you for showing us the tape gun, I got one and now use it all the time.

  41. This is certainly a different view, no window, no grass, no Mr D! Love how you store all your goodies, especially those ink pads and that is a very nice table that you work on too, love it. Not sure about your heat gun though!

  42. Ooh...baskets....now that is a good idea. I feel a trip to poundland coming on! I have a couple of blue baskets mushrooms are delivered in, but they are quite big, need to search out smaller ones me thinks!

  43. And I thought I had a load of stuff, your coming very close Julia and the second to bottom drawer looks like it has collapsed under the strain. I have so much in drawers and can never remember where that vital piece of kit is so end up opening them all - must put some labels on.
Where are you? Somewhere nice and warm I hope, with a bit of sun.

    a) my man
    b) my boys
    c) my dogs
    d) my room,

oddly only in my room with the menfolk popping in - me myself in my chair (throne) - just sitting and daydreaming - do I feel like I am 'home'

hope you are away somewhere nice and return inspired.

  59. Now you are putting all us messy crafters to shame, Julia. Your storage is all so organised. You have so many inks, but I agree, baskets are so much easier to pick up and move about. I tend to recycle old pretty boxes for stuff but they tend to just be stored under the desk. I really need to get organised!!!
Love the heat gun hanging off the lamp. Mine spends it's life getting tangled up with chair legs or my legs and then there are all sorts of naughty words in the air!!!
