It's a cracker....
Ha, that got you swooning at the thought, huh! No, nothing to do with that particular season. Instead, I wanted to put an idea to you. Well some of you. And it was LunchLadyJan's idea, not mine. Because she's braver than me. But it is a cracker of an idea. OK, get on with it. How about, on Saturday October 13th 2012, you come to a 'Crop/bring a craft to do' day here in Ludgershall or somewhere near. Bring another WOYWWer, or two. We'll meet, chat and possibly even craft. Most importantly, we'll have lunch...designed and prepared by erm, LunchLady Jan. So pretty much what we did recently with Elizabeth and Di, but scaled up a bit. It's fair to say that Jan has been trying to co-ordinate a meet of about five WOYWWers but diaries are a problem, so the idea of picking a date relatively well into the future seems sensible, non? Might give you a chance to consider your diary, and make a plan. There are railway stations within an easy drive so you could be collected from Andover, Pewsey, Salisbury...check 'em out if trains work for you, that's the sort of co-ordinating that we need to know about! We think about 10am to 4pm, we think that to cover hall hire and food it will probably be about £10 per head for the day...it will work at whatever it costs, this isn't a commercial venture for profit, obviously.
If you'd like to come, leave a comment...if we can get a feel for numbers, I can get the hall booking committed and we can look forward. Don't be afraid of coming on your own...I'll be nervous enough for both of us. And it will be fine.
Told you it was a cracker.
And...if you live too far away, but tend to visit the Crafts for Christmas show at the NEC....watch out, there's another plan being hatched!
What a lovely idea! Just checked the AA Route mappy thing and I'm about 2.25 hours away from you... it is my sister's 40th birthday around then so can you put me down for a 'possible' and I'll let you know if I can attend nearer the time when I've been told when I'm required for merry making and other olde worldy celebratory nonsense...!
ReplyDeletePut me down as a possible too sounds like a cracking idea:)
ReplyDeleteSheilagh
Sounds like a brilliant idea but I'm guessing too far for us to join you....I've just looked and its over 4 hours on the train :-(
ReplyDeleteHugs,
A x
I think I could be a possible, just got to work out exactly where you are! Lol Will dig the map out and see, consult diary and go from there! Zo xx
ReplyDeleteMy face has fallen into a sulk here Julia. I would have enjoyed your meet I'm sure of that. Its just too far away for me. I do love the cracker piccie, its beautiful. Enjoy your Week-End. Hugs Rita xx
ReplyDeleteHi Julia, I am going to have a look at the map too, see how far and then will let you know a.s.a.p. Anne x
ReplyDeletesounds like a good possibility. will keep my eyes peeled for updates.
ReplyDeleteOh It's too far for me too, but Its a great idea, maybe I could organise one for the North East. Michelle x
ReplyDeleteI'm up for it. Totally. I shall start investigating trains and I'm putting it my diary now. Let me know what food I can bring!
ReplyDeletecheers, rachel
No idea where that is but I'll give it some thought. BJ
ReplyDeleteI'd love to be a possible too, will check train times and costs and get back to you.
ReplyDeleteI'm in and I can cook!
ReplyDeleteI'll probably come by train rather than drive from Worthing
Jakixx
In my diary already matey! Think it is a fab idea! Is Snells still in Salisbury? If so, I will need to ask you to do me a favour please!! Haven't been there for a long long time!
ReplyDeletexx
That's a good date for me too!!! Let me know if a car is picking up from the station if not I will try and get a lift over.
ReplyDeleteI can say for certain (assuming I can get there)that I can bring some unwanted supplies with me. That might mean people travelling on the train could have less to transport?
** Kate **
Oooh what a fab idea! Need to see if I can rearrange some plans in place for that date so I;m a maybe - would love to meet up again
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, and if Jan's bringing cake, yum!!!
Debs x
Good idea Julia but a bit too far for me I'm afraid, but if it carries on raining like this the county may shrink and it will be much more of a possibility. On the other had it is Mr B's birthday that weekend plus 2 of my Grandchildren so I wouldn't be very popular if it missed those.
ReplyDeleteDo I need asking twice? I'm up for it Julia/Jan. Grinning here - only hope those travelling by train don't bring wobbly jellies and such - could make for some interesting journeys :)
ReplyDeleteCan I bring me knitting and just natter?
Di xx
I've just googled it and I'm only 1 1/2 hrs away. I need to check with my other half, but it's my birthday weekend, so I think I can persuade him.
ReplyDeleteIt is a cracker of an idea
Now I really want to come visit..... what's the one at Christmas?
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kay
That is something I would love to be able to join in with but I'll be there in spirit (and will look at all the photos on various blogs and pretend I was there!!)
ReplyDeleteI hope you all have a fabby time.
ReplyDeleteLove the cracker Julia.
Toni xx
what a brilliant idea, count me in, as you know I'm not too far. not sure yet if I will drive or go by train sort it nearer the time. like the idea od swapping stash
ReplyDeletejanet
Hmm just when I was wondering if I'm brave/daft enough to drive all that way again u casually announce there may be another one on my doorstep so I think I'll hold out for that one, please!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to come and am looking into travel arrangements. xxx

ReplyDeleteP says I can come, so put me down as a definite
ReplyDeleteExcited already
Now, the NEC is much nearer to home for me :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived a bit closer. Like on your side of the pond. I would definitely be there if I could.
ReplyDeleteSorry I've been absent. I had a computer meltdown, then left town for several days before I could correct the problem. Not a good time to be gone, that's for sure. Thanks for your visit, though. It was so sweet of you.
Do you pick up from Heathrow??? How I'd love to come, sounds like a cracker of a day hahahhaa
ReplyDeleteone day I will get together with other WOYERs
Will be thinking of you all as I go to see my sketchbook which is touring the world and in London that week as part of the Brooklyn Sketchbook Project.
ReplyDeleteWe had a fantastically funny lady do a cracker workshop at our group last year. It was a brilliant couple of hours. Her display of crackers was awesome, she had them in every colour, for every celebration you can think of.
Hope all your planning goes well Julia and Jan x x
Lynn and the Doodly Birds
Ooooh, NEC at Christmas ... perhaps an added Dolly meet if the time coud be squeezed and accommodation always available for special guests!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely! Would be lovely to see you both again xx
ReplyDeleteoh, Julia, if only! a cracker of an o\idea indeed, it sounds so very super do take lots of pickies and tell us all how much fun you have! so often wish I lived over your way but your climate would really get me down s glad i live down under. Great idea though Jan, and hope it really goes off with... well a bang course! Shaz in Oz.x
ReplyDeleteOk I would so love to be there but it is a big swim across the big pond from the land down under. I could always web cam it LOL
ReplyDeleteI hope it all goes well and I will look forward to reading all the posts about it. definitely a cracker of an idea.
Eliza
What great idea Julia (and LLJ of course) I'd love to come and meet up with you all :o)
ReplyDeleteHave checked the trains and its definitely do-able, Andover would be best for me as it's closer to London (and therefore cheaper) but if Salisbury is better for whoever gets lumbered with doing pick-ups that's ok too...so it's a yes from me.
ReplyDeleteOnly just seen this and you know what, that just might be doable. Will have to check the leave possibilities for that Saturday but I have a sneaky feeling I've already booked it off. So a definite maybe from me LOL.
ReplyDeleteCindy
What a wonderful idea! Do you think if I start swimming now, I could make it in time?
ReplyDeletelol,
Sandy (Massachusetts, USA)

would love to come, you are about a hour and a half away, hubby says he will drive if he can find somewhere to go whilst i am crafting, please put me down as a possible,x
ReplyDeleteWell, I've dropped off the circuit recently, but if I try very hard at joining in again, will you let me along?
ReplyDelete(I have a good excuse as to my disappearance, and it might mean I quite close by, by October).
well, i'm still wading though dozens of emails as per usual, and reading backwards through your posts (via email) to come across this one...
ReplyDeleteI lost count on how many times I suggested a meet in the earlier days...
However, it might be a bit of a drive for me on my own given my current state of health, but living in Derbyshire, I can say with some conviction that i'm pretty much in the centre of the country - maybe a great place to consider one day and there is a venue almost across the road from me (well, my estate anyway)...
I would sincerely love to come and join you - but it would have to be an overnight stay for me as I wouldn't be able to manage there and back in the same day (maybe if on the train, but a it expensive, I'm guessing). I know one day we will meet - perhaps some more local meets could be arranged for peeps who live near to others - then further on, maybe delegations of WOYWWers could come in their coachloads to Tattershall??? I an ideal world - we'd live in WOYWW village lol.
'til we meet someday,
Paula x x x
