What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 153

Ooh look, a genuine night time shot, and a calm looking desk.  Two reasons for this...the gessoed comic annual pages you see are drying having had a jolly good squirting with cosmic shimmer mists, or equivalent products.  All of which are now in the kitchen awaiting patient hot water type squirter unblocking.  I hate that.  Every last bottle that I have (five) won't squirt.  Argh.  You can see one of 3 Scrap 365 mags that Mary Anne has shared with me...waiting to be read.  The free cover stamp from Craft Stamper is one of Jennie's at the Artistic Stamper...and is poised, ready to commit me to something.  I know not what.  The calm is because I haven't been at my desk all weekend.  Since the Crop, the head cold has got worse and I feel really bloody.  So am saving my energy for whining.  I'm so much better at that anyway! The good thing though, is that this sitting around feeling horrid means I'll probably actually make it to more desks than last week, so link up do, and save me from my blocked up whining self!
CLICK THIS for an infopost about the ATC swap planned for the third anniversary of WOYWW. Which is Week 156. I've scheduled this..will be up relatively early to see if it works!
Meanwhile....photo your work area..desk/floor/deck, show us what you're up to and where.  Post on to your blog, include WOYWW in the title and link here. Easy.  We'll visit.   It's fun.

  1. Wow, I'm #1 on the list this week? I've been feeling terrible all day - sinuses, cold, whatever - but I think this actually perked me up a bit!

Love the night shot! When I don't get natural light - mine usually just turn out dark! Very cool desk. I do hope you feel better!

  2. I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling very well, have you tried hanging your towel draped head over a pan of steaming water, works really well if you have some eucalptus to throw in there too! waving hi from the rainy hills of North Carolina :) ps, looking forward to the ATC swap!

  3. Sorry you've come down with a cold - it must be all this rain!! I love those background pages you're working on - I am sure they will be fab. Happy WOYWW. somewhere about 9.

  4. Well, your post must have come up early, because, according to my (not reliable) calculations, I reckon that it's not yet 6am, your time, right now. (And it's 2.30pm here, if that's of any remote interest. I've said before, thinking about time zones does my head in, and I don't have a cold.) And your desk looks very much under control and almost neat (not that I advocate neatness, there would be nothing to see if all desks were neat, and then you'd be out of a job, hehe! and that would never do!)

  5. Good morning Julia,

  6. A great atmospheric photo Julia...I've been zentangling and now I'm straining to check out you're desk, so I may have to lie down soon.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling too good...you should have a hot toddy! They always work for me...don't cure anything but make me feel so much better ;D
Thanks again for keeping me inspired for another week :D

  7. Oh Julia-I used my first gesso on canvas this week...what a MESS! Or is it just me???? I am a pig pen with glitter and stuff like that too. Hope you are feeling better soon, not fun to be feeling sickly! Get Well Girlie!

  8. Intriguing. Where is it all going, I wonder? I'm sure you will share in due course. Is there anything sadder than the week AFTER a monthly crop? Too long to wait to see stuff in real life. Hope your congestion clears. Shame it's not a cough so you'd have an excuse to drink a lovely hot toddy. :)

    Have a restful WOYWW

  10. Hope you feel better sooner than soon, Julia! I can't imagine why wall putty is not available in your neck of the woods! It's really much coarser than gesso and it's cheaper too! Like a poor relation I guess! Have started on my ATCs! Can't wait! :^) patsy

  11. Sorry to hear the lurgy has struck - hope it is fleeting and that you have some Vicks handy
... being in 'sit and potter mode' does' mean getting lots of other stuff done. My cough delivered a string of DT stuff! Having bottle issues too. Hot water and a pother have only resulted in left wing, side winder squirts and rude words.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Sarah at 13.

Love scrap 365 mag - have a subscription for that and have never bought any stamping mags and wondering whether I should try one. Also wondering about your ATG gun. Where did you get it (and refills) from? Is it acid free and all that? Wondering whether it would be cheaper than the Herma runner I use now. I did have a read of your adhesive post btw. I think I am somewhere in between. BJ #41

  50. First, really sorry about last week... please put coffee down now. aw, not nice having a head cold...or any thing cold. I've had a 'coff' sine Nov/Dec last year and at last someone is sending me off to play with a nice doctor and a treadmill... I was never any good on those, we had one at home, the cat would join in, and both of us would shoot off the end in a heap! Your desk is looking very tidy this week. Have a good one.

  60. Sorry to hear you're feeling so poorly, Julia, and hope you are better soon. It's miserable, isn't it. Well done you, getting WOYWW up and running for us, despite feeling horrible!

As for the glimmer mist, have you tried spraying the last couple of sprays with the bottle upside down? This clears the nozzle and prevents the stuff drying in it, which is what blocks it up. You get the same problem with Spray Mount and other things like that. You could try washing it off immediately after use, too.

Sorry I didn't make WOYWW last week - had a health scare and Wednesday was over before I remembered about WOYWW!!

    Happy WOYWW,

  71. I'm late as I thought today was Tuesday due to the bank hol!. No99 is a nice number anyhow!
Whilst the drying process progresses your desk looks really tidy and organised!
I alway decant my Glimmer type sprays into small misters. The Tim H ones are good but expensive so I buy hand sanitisers (the size of marker pens), usually 3 in a pack from £ shops or sometimes they come with mosquito repellent in them. I empty the contents into a bigger spray bottle to use whenever.
This means I can mix water with some of the more intense colours and also blend the colours. They spray well and can easily be washed out so don't block. With small tubes there's less to carry to workshops.....Simples!
If you can't find any let me know and I'll get you some.

  111. Oh pish tosh! You have the creeping crud too? I'm so sorry. It sucks all sorts of nastiness. I'm finally on the mend, but I could backslide real easy, so I'm going to take it easy today.... which is usually a chore for me, but when you have no energy, it is a snap. Get better, save the desk doings for when you feel better. La Princessa #150

  116. I know the pain of clogged spritz bottles only too well - try soaking them in vinegar if hot water doesn;t work, I just rescued five of mine!;)

  117. Hello Miss. Sorry I am late but I too am feeling yukky today. Woke up with a chest infection and a seasickey feeling. I actually had the post ready to link this morning but wasn't up to it. Seems like we kissed the same Toad maybe! Hugs to you Julia.

  119. AWWW, don't ya just HATE head colds? Hope you get better soon! And yes, I hate it when the darn bottle doesn't let me get ALL of what's in it out!!! You would think they could come up with a better spray thingy...they always seem to give out before the bottle is empty :(

  120. Bless your heart, dear Julia, making a postie when you feel like sheet! Please get well soon! Big hugs!

  121. Hope you feel better soon.
I have issues with clogged bottles as well, esp cosmic shimmer. Even lots and lots of hot water won't clear them. Keeping them stood up and not shaking, just rolling while semi upright to mix seems to help a bit, but they still clog. :(

  122. Oh, man.... being sick sucks as the kids say...well, not even just kids anymore is it? ....I, myself, have actually used the term....maybe we should just refer to it as the 'vernacular'.... yeh, that'll do....

hope you feel better soon..... I wish us all good health...seeing as I am not totally back to normal either...and it's been months now.... sigh.................

  132. Oh dear, sorry to hear you are feeling poorly but we love to hear your whining anyway as it is always more amusing than annoying! I too have the shimmer sprays that don't spray - all different, and some home made. Does the hot water thingy work? I tried it once in my big stewpot (which incidentally I don't cook in anymore) and just ended with brightly coloured water eveywhere, brightly coloured hands and sprays that still didn't spray. I have left them in their bottles and now decant just a little to another one when I need it, messy and fiddly, but better than nothing. I am very late this week, screwed up my automatic post and have only just got in from my work. Best wishes, Cindy x

  134. Nevermind, I went to a doc appt. and sitting in the wait room, I realized I was 152 on week 153. I'm an idiot. Besides now I'm home and see I've become 160. Are you heavily medicated with your cold and spinning our links in a rolly bin?!

  135. Oooh - for a scary day there I thought I was going to be in trouble for posting up your photo - truth be told I hadn't noticed the hair, just the smile!

  140. Oh my goodness, it's so good to see these workdesks. I love it! And it's been so long since I WOYWW'd! In fact, it's been so long since I WOYWW'd, that I forgot to put it in the title of my blog--my blog is actually titled what's on my workdesk, which was tea, books, plans, and Oprah lifeclass stuff. Too funny. Thank you for continuing WOYWW, I never grow tired of seeing the amazing places where women create!

  148. Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well this week. There has been some kind of virus going around here that makes me just want to curl up and hide at home and not let anyone in. I am not happy with those sprayers either...I wrote the company and they gave me advice on how to unblock them...hot water treatment and told me that I can purchase another spray bottle...think not. Have a great week Julia and get to feeling better.

  157. Julia, thanks so much for visiting my blog and for your nice comment! I'm afraid those "mints" would do you a lot of no good, more than just rotting your teeth lol! Hopefully the clay extruder will arrive soon so I can progress with THAT project! As for creativity and ideas, I find them energising, but not always enough for me to actually DO the creating! Keep your eyes open for future pages. My biggest problem is deciding which of my favourite paintings to tackle next!

Been a horrid week for me so I feel lucky to have posted before the next WOYWW...
