Oh look, formulaic scrapbooking ... again'

I did these LOs at the crop at the beginning of the month....I did 5 altogether.  I know.  And I wasn't Billy No Mates, I still managed a lot of chat and the laughing that makes you have to blow your nose in polite company!
So there you have Miss D and her chums making the most of having the pool to themselves. And not a lot else of course, because two weeks after I asked, she hasn't journalled on the page yet.  So not going to happen, don't know why I kid myself!

And here's another it was a story that unfolded in front of me and Mr Dunnit for similar reasons, I journalled; I just know he's not going to get involved!  What strikes you most about this post and its pictures then?  Yep, I WAS on a roll, five layouts in one session is quite remarkable for me.  But look... and then, if you can be bothered, scroll back to the post called 'Spot The New Toy' and look at the pictures.  it's no wonder I can churn out five Layouts, they are in essence, all the same!  Oh Em Gee, I've gone all formulaic.  It's like you don't see the cobweb above our favourite chair till the guests arrive.  Same thing.  Put your LOs out there in a public forum and THEN you notice.  Strange huh.  Oh well.  Could be worse.  I could have done one LO a week for 5 weeks and still have the same formula going.  And I don't blame myself, of course.  It's the influence of you lot out there on the interweb.  Specifically the PageMaps team.  For sure.  It couldn't possibly be my design skills because I don't have any and it's not a lack of stash!  So there.  Tune in after the next crop to see if I've found a cure and actually managed to render something original.  But don't hold your breath!
Have a marvellous weekend.

  3. Oh wow - these are super Julia! Makes me want to have a go now.

Ha, ha - just spoilt my first finished image by wrongly overstamping :( I know what I did wrong, sometimes my learning curve is also known as trial and error!!

Have a super weekend too - the ironing finally got done yesterday, and boy did it seem quiet around noon while I was doing it.

  8. Hi Julia, if you hadn't said anything, I certainly would no have noticed anything formulaic about the pages and I like them - all that lovely blue and the holiday feeling captured perfectly ... now I want to go on holiday :) Thanks too for the badge - it arrived this morning and will be worn with pride :) Elizabeth x

  9. I agree with Elizabeth and I too wouldn't have noticed till you spilled the beans. The Stand Still LO story really amused me. I couldn't keep still for 5 minutes!

  13. If it aint broke - don't fix it. i honestly wouldn't have noticed the similarity if you hadn't pointed it out

  14. Is anything in crafting original anymore? How original can we be sticking paper to other bits of paper? And how different can 2 layouts from the very same sketch look? All of which means that formulaic is totally cool and nobody notices anyway! x

  15. Oh, they're not REALLY the same, are they? I mean, I can see what you mean...there's a long thing, and a fancy thing stuck on top, and the pictures to one side of it...but if you hadn't said anything I wouldn't have noticed. That's what different papers are for, lol. I always do something similar - layer a trimmed square on top of a full one, a few panels, photo mat, blah blah. It worked for Abba :D

  16. I dropped by to see if Blogger was going to let me leave a comment (yes, I'm having a horrible time trying to leave comments and write posts). If this actually goes through, I want you to know I received my badge today. I'm going to wear it with pride. When I'm NOT wearing it, it will be pinned to WOYWWendy.

I STILL can't see the formula in these layouts, although I know they are there (because you told me and I believe you). I guess you would have to SHOW me the connection, since the only thing similar I see are the embellishments running either vertically (as in these LOs) or horizontally (as in the ones below). Different number of photos, different placement of photos, different placement of titles, etc. But if you think they are the same, I promise not to disagree, since you are the scrapbook expert, not I.

Thanks for linking me on Wednesday. Yes, I'm sure I was asleep OR already gone for the day. BTW, did I tell you thank you for the badge and did I mention how MUCH I like it??? Well, I DO!!

  17. They look good to me....in fact very good :)
I started a scrapbook as a surprise for my hubby for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. It was and is still quite a project but his comments are conspicuous by their absence. We're on our way to our 33rd anniversary...I wonder if I'll ever finish it.
It may well appear on my WOYWW soon :D

  18. Great layouts, Julia, even if the are formulaic or no - who cares they look good and it is good one so why not stick to it? Sha zin oz.x

  19. Does it matter if they look the same?
The pictures and the memories are different and that's what counts.

  20. when i make layouts that are too similar I just make sure that they are in different albums or at different ends of the same one, lol.
at least you are getting pages done!

  22. I love your layouts, Julia. they are fabulous. I wish I'd do just one like that. I haven't scrapbooked since... a year perhaps. Still working on our "Across the States" trip scrapbook, and it's not even half way done. No wonder.

  23. I do that too, I'll get on a roll with a supple, techinque or even a layout and will use it for like 10 pages in a row. Who cares, the photos are story are told and the pages are beautiful! Don't worry about it:)

  24. Tee hee you are so funny... I see no formula really, but what the heck, they look great anyway... and as for the winding of the handle - I have BAD BAD arthritis and it precludes me winding some days... hence my reliance on yet ANOTHER (my 4th!!!!) Vagabond!!! Love it cos it looks after me if it just works!! Ha ha
    Love and light

I still haven't used it yet but a couple of people left coments on my post with tips. May explained exactly how to use it which is brilliant! Peek out of your bucket and have a look! xx
