What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 123

It's dark.  The state of my desk has nothing to do with the colour of the light, but goes some way to explaining why I'm crafting in the dark.  The last two days have been devoted to real work and real family matters and so this has just been a 'make-it' zone.  That is to say, I know I don't often tidy as I go, but this is very definitely a 'do a bit, leave it, do a bit more in ten minutes' scene.  There's evidence of Christmas cards, a CJ for which I'm honoured to have been asked to make an entry - it's Morti's.  There's a lot of gold embossing powder on the loose - the sign of defiance I think, for any family member who thinks it will be OK to open the window over my desk!  Three rolls of glue dots, teeny flat, large flat and large blob...very useful for the creation of the flowers - you can just see some of them in red, awaiting the moment of curl.  This shot also gives you a small taste of my still to be tamed plain scraps box.  It's not a losing battle particularly, but my mojo type priorities are definitely elsewhere!

Join the fun then, expose your desk to scrutiny....or your work area.  Show us what you're doing and what you're doing it on.  Keep your advertising to the less blatant please; if you link here, perhaps consider putting your desk shot as the first part of your article.  You'll get more visitors!

  2. We truly can work in whatever space we're given, this proves it. You've given yourself about the same amount of space I give myself and those darn scraps take up more than their share here, too....lol. Happy WOYWW and goodnight from this side of the pond. *smile*

  3. You definitely need 3 sizes of glue dots. Sometimes you even need glue dots with different depths! I do love gold embossing for a XMAS card something about lush gold to bring on a xmas feel.

  4. yes, real work and real family matters do have a way of taking over crafting time. sorry for the wrong link. i was surprised your post was up so early and automatically went for the enter button!

  5. Your actual space to work on is getting way smaller... this unfortunately has a striking resemblance to my desk, and I'm determined to change something about the mess! Happy WOYWW, Julia.

  6. Lots going on there! Thanks for hosting x

  7. You were early and I was just messing around until I thought your post would be ready. At least I'm here this week. Still can't get to my e-mail, but at least I can visit blogs.

I know about family priorities. Even a family of one has some matters that must be attended to. Your desk looks surprisingly clean this week, though.

  9. Blast Julia! I did the link, started hopping, and when i went back it wasnt there. Did it again, and missed out the gap in my name then saw the other one had appeared! Doh! Clearly very excitable this morning....can you delete the wrong one (16)?

You sound a bit like me, all a series of things that dont quite work out as I planned. Your may be due to family matters, mine are. More just being a numpty :). Is the early posting your way of claiming some time back?

No matter have a good one ...

  12. Don't we all end up with a tiny space to work in, no matter how big our desk? Glad you're fitting in even ten minutes of creating. Some days I don't even manage that!

    Have a good one.

  17. Morning Julia I find embossing powder very much like sand - gets in the most unlikeliest of places!! I put all my scraps in a drawer then I don't have to look at them the only trouble being I never use them cause I don't see them and they have also now spread into two drawers - must be a lesson there!! Thanks so much for sharing xx

  18. Much the same with fabric scraps, they go into a bag with the intention of being used but never see the light of day again.

  20. Sorry if people think I'm insensitive blogging my desk today but I had to do it. May not get to leave many comments though - so if I don't get back to you - thank you for your kindness. Julia, your scrap box looks so tidy (compared to mine!) Have a great day and hope your crafting life gets a look in soon.

  21. It looks busy as ever Julia, where do you get your refills for your big old yellow gun?
The ones which came with the purchase of my tool are practically exhausted and refills seem incredibly expensive compared to the price I paid for the job lot which came in the bundle with the gun.
Cheapest source would be most welcomely received!

  22. Glue dots are essentials, great desk and nice to show my desk again after such a long time !

  23. I have been AWOL since forever - can I come back?? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  24. lol, sometimes I only craft for 3 minutes at a time..I run to my craft desk during commercials...that's why I don't care about them being so long anymore...

Don't be shocked if you get around my desk. Yikes it looks like a tornado landed.

    Have a great Wednesday...xoxo Marjo

  26. Ahh it is a lovely creativmess that seems just about right to me. Scraps - guess I go against the grain for crafters I used to keep them then realised i never used them so now they go straight in the bin. Have a great Wednesday

  27. Crumbs, managed to get in at number 34 this week :) I do smile at your teensy space you leave to work in, why do we all do that? 'Tis the season for embossing powder and glitter to be left around - you could put a notice on the craft room window saying 'Do not open - Christmas Elves at work' :)) Di xx

    ReplyDelete
  28. Di again, sheesh, what a palaver! Firstly I added the wrong link so number 47 is right but number 46 isn't - how did that happen huh?! And I could have sworn I was likely to be number 34 - off back to bed to see if I can find my Mrs Sensible head instead of Mrs Potato Head otherwise today is doooooomed! Di xx

    ReplyDelete
  29. Glad to hear the mojo is up and a running. I like the cherry (is it toilet roll type) stuff? THank goodness the window is over the other side of the room. Although I do have the start of a glittery mess to find for the nest few months - it was bound to start at some time!

  30. What a wonderfully busy desk today Julia. Keep up the good work :-) I will send round the tidy up fairy if you need to be busy with other things :-)

  32. Seems like you are very busy there! Have a great day!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Def need more than one roll of glue dots ready at hand - I have an a4 crate on glue that lives on my desk continually with hundreds of types lol thsnks for hosting

    ReplyDelete
  34. At first glance I really didn't think it was your real workspace. Your light is always so cheerful. Hope you have more crafty time soon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sometimes real life just has to take priority so there's nothing wrong with crafting here and there is there, although I can't understand how a quick ten minutes suddenly turns into two hours. I think a fairy comes and moves the clock hands on when I'm engrossed!!
I love the idea of gold embossing powder as a way of keeping other family memebers well clear of the creative processes in hand.
    Happy WOYWW
    Hugs Lisa #62

  36. Sometimes life takes over and crafting takes a back seat, but it will always be there....waiting...! Looking forward to seeing the Christmas (dare I say it) cards! Enjoy WOYWW!

  37. Nice to see I'm not the only with a 'creative desk'! lol

I seriously NEED a day OFF crafting to catch up on the dreaded housework! Although I must admit to being not too sure if I should disturb my dust! It just looks sooo content where it is! lol

    Happy WOYWW

  38. Family and life seems to get in the way now and then ...as it should ...but at least you are managing a little creativeness ... the residue creative chaos is not worth worrying about.
I had real problems getting on to your blog ...screen froze three times ....grrrrr.but it seems to be resolved. xx

  39. Morning Julia, your creative space is fab, glue dots are essentials and we all have exploding scrap boxes, I've noticed that I often find the best scraps on the floor, lol. I'm sure there will be time for more crafting, real life often takes it toll and sometimes mojo is AWOL, but it will be there again.

    Warm hugs

  40. Wow. That is certainly a piled-high, creative workspace - it's just... well... where exactly to you have the space to work? *lol* It's so interesting - as always - see a pie of anything crafty, and I just have the urge to start rummaging :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Pie??? Of course I meant PILE.
Though pie would be nice right now...

  42. Have joined in for the first time today! Have loved reading and seeing what 'creative spaces' other people have and I thought it was about time I showed my tip of a desk!

  43. Hi Julia, I've just emerged from the sack...went back in this week for a few hours kip so I can pretend I do sleep. Of course you may snag the piccy - it's for WOYWW and therefore all yours, and it got me off stamp cleaning for a bit...done that now. They were piled high on the 'to clean' tray, you have led me astray...

  44. Your desk is always a pleasure to look at, probably 'cos there's so much on it to be nosey over lol! Have a great day! :o)

  45. Yes, glue dots. I have only just discovered the existence of the large fat ones. Very useful.

i have an untamable scraps box too so its not just you.

wont post a photo of my desk today as there is nothing on it!! i am too poorly to craft so hubby has tidied and cleaned (even polished!!) my desk!!!

  47. Looks like a productive and busy desk, Julia! Thanks for organising another WOYWW - hope it's a good one for you. My space is full of finished and almost finished projects for our exhibition and sale at the weekend. Still lots to do!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I've been crafting in 10 minute increments lately too. No hour long blocks at all. The CJ sounds great and I haven't even started thinking about Christmas cards. I'll be so late this year........ Sigh. I hope you can get in a little more time on this Wednesday! :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wowza...now that's a happy desk! Wish I could stay up until you post...the wee hours of the a.m. are too late for this old gal.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi Julia, well, despite my best efforts and sitting up into the wee small hours, I still haven't succeeded in linking much earlier than usual :( Maybe next week. Your desk ... it's a great snooping ground and makes mine look soooo boring. Just had to zoom in on your card mountain - I think it would take some concentrated effort to reduce it to manageable proportions :) Sorry to hear that family priorities are encroaching on your crafting time - hopefully you'll get some time to craft soon. Hope you have a good week. Elizabeth x #53

  51. That open tray of embossing powder tells me you are a woman without fear lol. I was wondering why you had so many rolls of tape going, till I read they were glue dots :D. Love that build-up of scraps too! Lovely crafty desk with your glasses at the ready. #82 today :D

  52. A very creative space this week.
I find some of my best creations happen when I am stealing ten minutes here and there

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh look I made it before 100 today!! :) Attending to real work and family matters, I just hate when that stuff gets in the way. Despite that, I'm glad you are still able to get some things done, even if it is only in ten minute increments! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. It looks like you have lots of fun stuff going on, even if you have been super busy!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Do you know, I've never used a glue dot in my life! I saw those big fat ones somewhere the other day and I bet they are very handy for making rolled roses/flowers :o)

    ReplyDelete
  56. How brave leaving loose EP!! I'd knock it over, dump stuff into it...generally have a mess! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  57. I intended to post this before I went to work, but my brain doesn't function very well at 6.00am, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  58. lots of creative energy coming from your desk, love it, also love the dark mornings for some reason, cosy somehow!
    have a great day, Debxx

    ReplyDelete
  59. Like me your craft space seems to be getting smaller !! its amazing how creative we crafters can be with little room xxx

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think it is better to not clean as you go. For example, I tried to clean my desk, for a before and after shot for my first WOYWW (its a disaster right now, no crafting can happen on it!)...and broke my toe while cleaning!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think you and I are in the same zone at the moment - crafting in between alot of other stuff going on. I don't feel quite so bad about the state of my desk now - thanks Julia!

    ReplyDelete
  62. It has been a while since I posted here, but I am doing a fun project and thought you might like to see the process. I used my pressed flowers!!!

  66. I love how your desk has like things with like things. It tells me that basically, you are organized. And that when it does come time to clear away the workspace, it'll be easier to put things back where they live. I like your work space a lot! What a wonderful blog you have, art friend! *smiles* Norma

  67. Sometimes the crafting is way more important than the tidying!
That desk looks very busy and industrious... almost as if you could leave it to itself and when you returned, you'd find several nicely completed projects!
Mine is tidy - in the middle! I was just at Susanne's blog and commented that if it gets much messier on the perimeters, everything will soom collapse onto the project in the centre!
Glad I found the link to here... I keep losing it. About to book-mark you now, so I can join in next time too.
    Happy Wednesday!

  68. Oh-oh! Just realised my post doesn't have a proper photo of my desk.. please forgive me, just this once - I will remember next time?!

  70. Finally managed to leave some messages, by hooking the old laptop up to the broadband modem, while the PC us back in hospital. I am guilty of doing a bit, leaving it and going back again over a few days, which is why my desk is usually a mess. Hope you manage to get everything done.

  75. We all seem to have too much on this week. Is the Christmas panic beginning to set in? Nice to see I'm not the only one crafting in the dark!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well I looked and looked again and realised that there is a modicum of orderliness there even if it is a mad busy desk. Everything is in place for use and nothing is piled high (yet) so you deserve a medal for keeping it all together! Well done...

  77. I have posted my pic but I'm afraid its not my desk Again. promise i will post pic of desk next week.

Yours is a lovely productive desk - nothing wrong with coming back and forth to crafting expecially when there is lots going on elsewhere.

  79. Sorry I'm very late this time, but I've had a crafting Wednesday with a good friend. So all the posts has to be done afterwards. Your desk looks really busy, a perfect place to create and try new things. After making my backgrounds it's now time to finish the project. That takes even more time, but you'll see the results next week. Thanks for visiting me. xFranka

  81. Thanks Julia for posting this, though I will admit, mine is a disgrace!!!
The craft room is a place I can walk out of and shut the door on my "creativity" hiding it from public view, as the rest of the house is tidy, and NOT in keeping with the craft room!!
