What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 59

Shame, actually. Am busy and fed up with the fire fighting type of management of my space. Even the stamp shelves have piles of stuff which shouldn't be on them. And you can see, I'm working on top of stuff.. such a danger when you're inking and sticking. What you can see is a wedge of lovely papers and such; I need them in front of me for colour matching and of course, there's just nowhere to put anything. So now I admit defeat - swing right to behind my desk and see the 'cutting' station. Piled high again. And again, now driving me mad.

So it'll be a scourge type clean-up for the weekend and hopefully some lovely tidy, inspired crafting instead of the feverish 'looking for something' that's been going on this week. I would start today, but I have an important appointment with a cafetiere and a friend I made off the interweb. Will spill all later! Have a great day and oh - do show and tell - be brave - if you look over previous posts you'll see - it's not about untidy shame - it's about letting us see what you've got and what you're doing. Leave a comment and a link so we can pop round to yours for a rummage. You can even have a WOYWW button for your blog if you'd like - code and such at top left margin. or when you get to Nicki's you can bag one of her gem like badges.
Quite a few of you ask me how I manage to visit everyone that links in. I'm not the only one that does though, so don't rate me as special! Here's my secret: I don't get in a stitch about how long it takes - if I'm still visiting on Saturday, that's OK....it's meant to be fun, right?

  9. I did it again. I lost the post I was trying to write. Third time. I was trying to comment on your firefighting management. It doesn't look like it would take you that long to unclutter things. It's not like you must take a shovel to it.

I'm curious about that banner on your bookshelf. And speaking of shelves, are those a Mr. D special?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Very "creatively untidy" this week looks like you've been really busy. Love the new "Yellow machine". Have a great day!

  12. Keep calm and carry on should be on my desk too! Especially in the work desk of my day job! That's even worse than my craft room! Patsy from

  13. And fun it is! take advice from your poster and KEEP CALM! I have weeks like yours when everything gets on top of me because I am not organised - have a good sort out at the weekend and that will put you in good stead for the next few weeks (when no doubt you will be back in the same situation and have to do it again!). Keep smiling :)

  14. Hmmmm I must admit I can see it wont be easy to work in your space today. Shall I pop round in my spare 1/2 hour around midnight and help you tidy up? :-) Have a great time today meeting you friend for coffee :-)

  22. Your desk is making me feel better (and you'll notice I cheated this week and photographed the dining room table). I'm in for trouble though- less then 24 hours till a houseguest needs to sleep in my craft space. Hello procrastinating...it's too large of a job to even start.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yes, I needed a tidy too. I always love the view from your workdesk out into your garden. Looks like a little oasis of calm. Have a good week.

  27. Hi Julia
Oh how that lament of too much stuff & not being to find anything rings true with me !
But I still can't resist adding to my stash !
I am on a campaign to use something from my stash every week !!
A big tidy up seems a good plan but will have to wait a couple of weeks until I get a weekend at home & tackle the wild place that is my garden neglected over my holiday !

    ReplyDelete
  28. Enjoy having a sort out, you may find some treasures you'd 'lost' along the way x

    ReplyDelete
  29. That's why I tend to be fairly tidy - I just can't stand it if it gets too bad! Makes my teeth itch. You'll feel SO much better once its done, and it helps your creativity too.
    PS Love that poster!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't think it is all that bad - but I can understand when you just can't find a space to something and even worse can't find anything so I hope you do manage to tidy up a little bit!
    Hugs.

  31. Go on have a tidy up challenge, you will feel much better with everything in its right place, for a day or two it never stays that way ROFL.
But you do manage to find papers, punches etc that is hidden away that you forgot you had, its like you have just been on another shopping spree

    ReplyDelete
  32. You are brave Julia for revealing how the state of your space is affecting you. Mine is driving me crazy I need to tidy up I just also have a million other things that need to be done first - Sigh!

  36. Just goes to prove that you fill the space no matter how much of it you have.

Sorry, if there is more than one link of mine, it's because I had the wrong thing on my paste button. Tried to repair it but probably failed, it's going to be one of those mornings after the night before!

  37. What a creative heaven but totally understand about not being able to work. Be careful that you dont tidy too much and tidy away your mojo.
I am so pleased that I am not the only one who takes a week to work my way around the blogs....off to start now.
    Tracey

    ReplyDelete
  38. Enjoy reading your blog posts! I am rearranging my room and I would be fearful to post any pics! I would be afraid that the fire dept would condemn my work room!

    ReplyDelete
  39. "KEEP CALM".....must be something I say to myself at least 100 times, with teenagers (young adults), work, machinery etc.....I take my hat off to you. Will look forward to see how you can on tidying/reorganising. I look forward to WOYWW every week!

Hi Julia-good luck with the tidying.Perhaps you need a treat to get you back on track.I spilled on my knitting in progress the other day and will have to wash it-thank goodness it wasn't stainy-just TV dinner (what a slob)-that's a lesson hard learnt. 46. Love your cosy corner just as it is Julia but if you really want it different , you'll get there. I have improved my act a tad since I joined WOYWW but there's a certain limit beyond which I'd go. My space MUST be comfy to me, with creativity abounding and not clinical, so I'm still a bit of a mess.
    Have a good day.
    Jo x
I'm amazed how many WOYWWers get up so early!! I don't have two 8 o'clocks in a day now I'm retired, thank goodness!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hey hun have you read that poster BTW - you know the 'keep calm' one LOL but sometimes we just have to do it; tidy up that is. Though I've been threatening to do so for over a month now!

    Maggie

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm 'intending' to have a major tidy up, too Julia - wonder if we'll do it or keep it that way, lol? In the balance are creativity and tidiness, I think. Only time will tell...

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm sure that your desk is not as bad as you think it is, just listen to the words on your fab poster (I would love one of those)and everything will come good.) Once you get started, ten minutes and you'll be good to go and mess it up all over again!

  52. Dear Julia,

Some of the best work is created out of utter chaos....
Last week I gave my room a mega clean because I had guests coming. Although I felt dead chuffed I have also spent the last few days just admiring it all, flouncing in and out and running my fingers over dust free surfaces like some nutter of a house-wife in a TV ad. It was good to bring it all back down onto planet Earth yesterday with a good dose of splodge and rummaging...Hope you find the balance that will work for you! Sarah

    ReplyDelete
  53. Have a lovely lunch, both of you. Will try, as always to get around as many as I can, like you say, if it takes a week to do it...so be it!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hope you have a great day with your friend, the desk could do with a little clear up I think but not tooooo much.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I can't believe how early all these WOYWWers get up. It's 10.20 and I thought I'd be one of the first!!! Have a lovely day with your pal, and happy tidying (when you get to it!!!).

    ReplyDelete
  57. I do know that feeling, Julia - most of the time I am happy to craft in a state of mild chaos but every now and then enough is enough!

Hope you have a great day today and that you enjoy playing when you've had your big tidy :-)

  58. Love the poster. Enjoy your coffee meet. I've got to tidy up after each card. Happy crafting. Kathleen x

  60. yep mine is still in desperate need of a tidy up but as my card making mojo seems to have gone on holiday before me, I'm just leaving it and crocheting instead lol x. Good luck with the organising.....

  71. Aw, it might be getting too much for you Julia with all your stuff out but I'm having a lovely time looking at it all!

If it makes you feel any better, I get to the point where I have so much stuff out I can't find anything and have to have a good clear up too. Mind you, I've tried to be really diciplined and tidy away after every session in my work room for the last few weeks. It's not proper tidy but at least I have clear space and know roughly where to find things!

why you may ask, I remember your call for those of us who did not have our WOYWW easel and was really busy at work that week, so never got around to asking, However I am blog hopping and feel I am letting the WOYWW's down as I am not proudly displaying one

  107. your poster is fab, you are right about the stamps. I posted a link to your posts complaining about them and all the comments on the docrafts forum. I hope they take note. The sentiments needed for me to be separate. And the images separate larger. Or, i asked if they are doing the same again that they release it in a 8x8 size. so the images are larger. The go green born to shop stamp size i found a better size.

better late than never for me arriving, Sue linked up for me this morn and I thought I would get here myself much earlier than this, the joys of being a mummy and wife to a "I'm Soooooo Sick Hubby" lol. I love your definitions of the sheer lack of space I can so relate to that

  110. LOL last week I was early and didn't have a pic to show before posting here and this week its nearly bedtime. But hey better late than never right?

Julia my jewellery desk looks like that at times. My Art desk isn't too bad today I should have taken a photograph yesterday. I hate having to sift through piles of papers to find things - have fun tidying away - if you find out how to tidy away without making a "I'll need that later" pile please do share your secret.

  111. Phew made it back at last. Did not get back from the Tatton Show til half eight. Fantastic day though and lots of spending. Very creative desk this week, lots going on, but it would drive me mad being a neat freak having to search search and search for stuff. Can't believe how many are joining in now with WOYWW, it's quite a collection. Whats a collection of WOYWW'ers LOL. Tracy Evans x

  112. Hi Julia,

I love the Keep Calm and Carry On banner you're sporting by you're WOYWW project - but truth be told, I am still marvelling over the talented Mr Dunnit and that AMAZING rocking horse he made a few posts back! Now, that is a WOW project for sure! Wish you lived nearby, I'd be tempted to commission one of those for myself! On 2nd thought, I have no space at the moment, so I guess it's just as well!

Anyway, have a great week and I will try to remember your philosphy this week!

  122. You asked about the little ring binder on my desk. No, it isn't a stamp catalogue. I'm embarrassed to admit it would be too small for that. I'm working on a notebook inventory lately. The little one is to note songs that I like for their lyrics while I'm listening to my iPod.:-)

  124. Hi Julia

sorry i'm late - but better late than never huh?

Your space looks so inviting - i'd sit there with a cuppa and look at the mess anytime. I'm impressed that you have a table just for cutting = i'd love one but there's no room in the conservatory unless i out the sofa... but there's little chance of that at the moment.

Hope you're well and many apologies for not visiting recently... must catch up with your posts when i get the chance.

    Big hugs to you.

  125. LOL I'm pretty young, but not so much to have my full name on boxes...I just had to take my markers to some classes, so it needed to be labeled. You can't trust anyone over here.
