What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 474

Still a glorious, sunshiney Britain. I know lots of you don't like the heat, and I'm sorry if it makes you suffer. I love it, revel in it, enjoy being in it or looking out on it, sleep like a baby and generally feel it's good for me. It hasn't magically made me any tidier though!
The desk shows an ice cream tub full of Sharpies. Actually, possibly the most useful coloured pens I own. They live on a high(ish) shelf at left of my desk....high to stop certain male folk borrowing them. I keep ONE in a pencil pot on my desk and often found it's strayed to another home. You get my point. Under that is a piece of 12x12 from the Bohemian Dream collection from Cocoa Vanilla.  (Oh, these names!). I was going to make a LO with it, but was interrupted by the need to do real work (involving using the Sharpies) and this morning I have completely forgotten why I thought I could make that huge bold pattern work for me! The polythene boxes at left are how I store stickers and embellishments and I tend to do the paper part of a LO and then randomly sort through these boxes adding bits until I feel the LO is finished. It's highly technical.
Thought you might like a step back view so you can see why my desk is newly in permanent shade....still not obvious what we're doing, but you can see a big box taking shape with a white frame in centre top..that will be glazed (called a lantern). Other light will be gained through folding doors that will form 2 of the 4 walls. All in good time, people. So I've had Mr Dunnit at home for ad hoc hours here and there whilst waiting for paint to dry on a job in the workshop, anything that could be construed as a reasonable break time. Playing havoc with my nerves, guilt and supplies of squash and tea!
So that's almost a twofer, huh! Show us yours now, you know how we neeeeeed to see.
Happy and peaceful and glorious Independence Day, cousins. Hope it's a lovely party!

Mr D is working so hard, I bet he's ready for a break in the heat - but not for it to rain as it usually does when our heatwaves come to an end! Your desk is as always looking busy - hope you get to use that big pattern!!

Morning Julia. Fantastic patterned paper - love it - but have no idea what I would use it for... probably sit for years looking and stroking it!! Well done to Mr Dunnit for all the hard work and effort going in to that gorgeous extension. Exciting!
Take care. God bless.

Your remodel is beginning to take shape. All in good time, but I'm as curious as others what your "new" craft room will look like when it's finished. Thanks for the holiday wishes, too. Hope your Wednesday is NOT stressful.

Good Morning Julia, those sharpies really are a good stable in anyone's crafty stash and such a work horse! Just like Mr D by the looks of it, keep him hydrated with lashing of Tea, he's doing a wonderful job and your make over is looking fab. So much more space to fill with crafty stash hee hee!!
Happy Sunny Days & WOYWW 474.
Hugs Tracey xx

Oh Julia your extension sounds just absolutely wonderful. I have a friend who has one wall with those glass doors (like a glass wall) and I thought that pretty damned cool - but two!! Gosh you will be posh!
Not sure I would be able to start with that Bohemian Rhapsody, o whatever the name was, piece - will be good to see your LO when you get it done/started.
Happy 4th July indeed, part of my adopted American family are Facetiming this afternoon so am especially pleased for the celebration,
Have a great week enjoying the sunshine.
Hugs, Neet (who loves it also but wants rain for those fires) xx

Morning Julia, I know exactly what you mean about pens and men, they need something, so "borrow it " use it, and finish using it and it falls out of the mind at that point and will just be left wherever it was used, and may deny even ever having had it.
Your desk is not untidy, it is used!

Hi Julia, Not taking part in WOYWW this week, or next, but wanted to stop by and see what you are up to.

I love the background. Hope you can do something with it.

Your extension, which sounds rather like a sun room is coming along. Hope it's all done soon, so you can enjoy it.

Happy WOYWW

I love looking at your desk as there is always something different happening. The weather is nice but unfortunately as much as I hate to say it the rain will probably come when the children break up for the summer, from experience I know this is what usually happens. So make the most of it and have a lovely woyww, Angela x10x

I’m loving watching the progression of your extension. You have a clever man there girl. I love the heat but only if I can be sat at the pool side with a long drink in my hand. All I can say is thank God for floor standing fans when the work load is at its greatest it’s been for years. To say things have got a little heated here is an understatement......and of course I’m loving it.
Hugs,

You certainly picked a good time for getting that extension done in all this dry weather as long as the workmen don't mind the heat. I'm usually ok up until mid-day - then it gets way too hot to do anything outside all the way until 7-8 pm. I'll try to be like you and embrace the heat! I'm ok with it if I don't need to go anywhere and I can wear skimpy summer dresses around the house and jump in the shower when I get two sweaty! Happy summer, Julia! xx

The extension is coming on apace isn't it? Thanks for sharing with us, I find that even 'secondhand' building work is exciting ..... I have my walls plastered but the painter can't come now till next week!
Try leaving the paper until the winter and then it might remind you of an extremely hot summer .....

Since you asked, I was especially tired of the front "flower bed" once it was overgrown. So I want to make a more distinct, less hodge podge front garden. I also dug up all the rocks I had brought with me when I moved here, and piled them against a tree. I have finally decided on a location for a rock garden and that was the other reason I wanted to redo the front garden.

None of my veggies survived this year, so I moved all my herbs to the back patio, which in itself is sad. That's when I became aware of how ugly the back was, too. So I'm planning an entire makeover by spring, 2019.

"Bohemian dream" collection sounds like I want to check it out - I like the bold and colourful paper that you have on your desk there but I think I'd tear it to use parts on a layout or art journal page... I don't see how to use it as a whole. Enjoy the sunshine Julia, have a great day! Big (warm) hug from Holland. Marit #22

Interesting to see what's going on outside your window ... waiting for the big reveal when it's completed. Sensible to hide those sharpies when you can - and, yes, they are very useful pens. Hope inspiration strikes to create the LO with that lovely paper. Have a good day, Julia. Thanks for sharing - Hazel WOYWW #15 x

OOh that all looks so exciting!! That lantern is gonna make it very bright. I know what you mean about pens (and other stuff) finding a new home. I have scissors in every room of the house so my best ones don't go for a wander. Works about 95% of the time. Hope you have a happy Wednesday!! Cindy #19

Hi Julia, wow that paper really jumps out and grabs you by the throat, doesn't it? I was surprised how useful Sharpies were, got a largish set quite cheap at Tesco a while ago. The building looks to be coming along pretty fast. Love & Hugs, Shaz XXX#2

Happy WOYWW. I too have a large box of Sharpies - and they are safely hidden away with my other pens in my craft room. Don't use them enough, but have them in mind for some future projects. It is so wonderful for you that we have this long dry spell. We renovated the farmhouse back in 2013, and that was a long/hot spring/summer too. Made everything much easier for the builders. Look forward to seeing the finished result. Ali x #27

Lovely bright colourful page, Julia. Sharpies are great, aren't they. I don't own any expensive markers but then I don't do much colouring in really My hubby knows better than to pinch stuff out of my studio - if he wants to escape Shoshi's wrath lol! (You have been warned...) I still battle with him occasionally over stuff from the kitchen - and keep telling him that my best paring knife is NOT for opening parcels! At least he no longer "borrows" my measuring jugs for draining sump oil into. Your building work looks mega exciting. I'd love to see the finished result.

Happy WOYWW,

Looking forward to the reveal of the new space. Maybe you are getting a larger room? :-D I see bags of concrete or mortar and that skylight is going to allow so much light! Mr. D is earning breaks for sure if it's as hot there as here. Having lived through construction multiple times I can tell you this will all be worth it in the end. I think I'm #29 but my entry isn't showing LOL Mr. Linky does like to play. Creative Blessings on you and Mr. D. Kelly #29

Hi Julia, it's going to be absolutely flooded with light, what with the 'lantern' and folding doors, when done and Mr D is doing a fabulous job - especially in this heat! I agree with you on those names. Cocoa Vanilla just sounds scrumptious - a deliberate ploy to make us buy I'm sure. Saying that, I'm a hopeless cause when it comes to pretty paper! Have a wonderful week and just keep the squash and tea coming :) Hugs, Elizabeth x #32 (again!)

Hi Julia, Great BG but I'm really not very good at using bright ones.
Sounds like your extension will be a lovely bright place when its finished, are you moving your craft desk out there?
Oh I liked your blue dress!

Just love the way you always describe your desk in detail. Super fun paper pattern with great colors. Oh I'd love to have that addition on this small house. Just love windows for all the light and here in the countryside really don't use many curtains. Hope it's finished before the weather turns cold. I totally understand havoc with nerves/guilt and for me no patience. It's a different world when they are around doing things within an eye's view.
Have a great week

I use my Sharpies a lot also. And always like all the names that the companies name their colors! So nice that your hubby is doing this. It will be great when all is done. Happy WOYWW! #36

Hi Julia,When ds was home (young) I would find my prisma pencils all over the house. (that was really irritating) but, hubs borrows scissors. so I only hide the fabric & (ribbon) cutting ones. lol. your extension looks fabulous. hopefully you will still have lots of sunshine traveling through that space into your studio after too. ~Stacy #36

That paper is certainly bright, I'm not sure I'd know where to start with it! Your building work is looking good and you can really see it taking shape - it's going to be great when it's finished, bet you can't wait.

Totally forgot that I should have posted will do it next week. The heat here had me hiding in the basement seeing it just played havoc on me. Every time I thought I would survive my stomach did flip flops. So wasn't playing to much online at all. You space is looking wonderful can't wait to see the whole thing come together and I'm sure you will figure out something to do with your fun paper hugs Nikki

Are you building a sunroom? is it attached to you craft room? It looks very interesting! I think I used to have a T-shirt in the 70's that looked just like that paper! At least you are getting some artwork done - my desk hasn't changed one iota! I'm glad you love the heat. I hear constant complaining from DH about it! I don't mind it, but I do like my AC & fan at night! Have a great week, Lindart #41

Hi Julia, looks an interesting extension. Will this be a new crafty area for you? I love this weather too, although I'm not keen on going to work when it's so lovely! I know what you mean about the sharpie pens being borrowed! Grrr! The RUB on my side desk are part of 2 sets I have, 24 boxes in 2 holders. I use them for brads and embellishments mainly. Tiny things that get lost otherwise. Looking forward to seeing your LO with the lovely paper! Thanks for stopping by earlier and have a lovely week Heather x#9

Hope all the building and such gets done without any problems! I'm not sure I could do a layout with the bright paper but then, I don't do much scrapping. Hubby knows not to take off with anything from my room. But he will ask if I have something in particular if he needs it. Anyway, enjoy your weather and have a great week!

Was you talking about me and my epic posts there, Missus? Bwahaha! Yup, they are legendary to be sure. I loved every word and both photos of your post! I hope the sun continues to shine on you for a long time! (Mr. D is doing a smashing job, but I get the bit about the nerves! We like our menfolk lots of places, but under foot is not one of them!)
