What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 268

Well, there are two ways to think about my desk. One would be to give me a halo.  I've spent the last two days tackling paperwork. Business and private.  I've done an overhaul of Insurances Assurances and Pensions including shredding a ridiculous amount of old stuff.  I've sorted the administration of our teeny section of Spain, I've got the work books back up to date.  I'm feeling as if I'm getting somewhere. The other of course, is to call me a fool for sullying the creative with admin.  I know.
What you see today then is many fold, but in layers.  The ipad, after a Skype convo.  The forms are all to do with an Insurance claim.  Yawn.  On the far right is a Christmas card from a paper designed by my sister.  It's last year's, but was in my inspiration section and is now within my line of vision because yes, underneath all the admin...there's a nacent Christmas card! Me and that Scrap Lady Ally have announced the date and open booking for a September Christmas Card Marathon.  Shopkeeper Gal is talking about Christmas going on in her next workshop schedule.  So I'm belying the sweaty heat and gorgeous sun and getting the love of snow on.  I'm not, but I'm sure the more I do the more I'll feel in the mood! I will treat you to a proper view of two very obscured pieces of artwork in another post.  Honest.
Meanwhile, show me up and teach me not to use my desk for anything other than fun...post a pic on your blog, link it here and we'll trot round for a visit. Please understand though, if I don't get to you one week, I will another!

  1. I still love the sun streaming into your desk, gives me such a warm, feeling, and the missing ipad chair reminded me of being on the beach, so no beach for my view today LOL. Too much paper work I say but a great view

  2. Lots of my paperwork has ink on it . I hope the IRS and insurance companies appreciate that!
I refuse to think about Christmas tip after my birthday in August.

  3. Eventually they have to get done the problem is do you want to rush around to make last minute Christmas cards or relax and enjoy the holiday. I vote on the later the only rushing I plan on doing is getting the DH a present lol
Shame your doing blah stuff at your desk but the sunlight from your backyard looks gorgeous

  4. An interesting collection of bits and pieces this week. Nothing wrong with sharing some of the everyday with the creative process. I am almost lulled into thinking I should be getting ready for Xmas and then thankfully get distracted. Have a lovely week.

  6. Yuck to home paperwork, after working all day with the stuff, the last thing I want to do is come home to it... well done for getting it done. Couldn't feel in the mood for Christmas cards in this heat, so good for you for attempting it!! Great desk with the burst of sun across it. xx

  9. Christmas is coming, the Goose is getting fat .... and all that! Ooer! Don't remind me Julia, it will come around so quickly and there is so much to do.
Better than thinking about all the mundane paperwork though which unfortunately has to be done. So you don't need to be forgiven, if it lightens the load let it be so.
Enjoy the sunshine whilst it is here and cool down with thoughts of Christmas.

  11. Wouldn't it be great is life and desk were only used for fun or would it maybe we need the boring paper work and the mundane to make the fun .... Fun ...... Oh too much thought first thing in the morning .... I should wake up first.
Love the sunny look, and my but it's hot at the moment
    Enjoy your week

  12. Welcome to how our Christmas feels in real life! HOT! I can't ever get my head round the snowy images cos we just don't have snow here for a start...even in winter (unless you take a 3 hour drive into the mountains that is...)So I can quite relate you your current problem. As for the paperwork on your desk...always best to get it out the way so it does not "hang" over you and restrict the creative flow.

  16. Good morning Julia
I've been threatening to do the filing for weeks now and still not done it.
I've been threatening to clear the office floor so we can see if there is still a carpet there but. I've still not done it.
I've been threatening to clear out my wardrobe but I've still not done that either.
Lazy ? No ! To busy thinking about doing it all haha
    Have a good week x

  17. Oh heck. I'm sorry but I put the wrong link, so the one at 29 isn't right. I've added the right link at No.30

You have a lovely view from your window.

Hope the mundane paperwork is soon all finished and you can get back to crafting.

  18. Wow you are one busy lady and that tells me you are feeling more like your old self so I'm thrilled.

  21. Sunshine oh how I miss thee.. It's all overcast and don't think the fog has lifted all day.. So it was lovely to see the sun streaming in over your desk.. I have been away for a while but I have been busy doing lots of art.. trying different things and thoroughly enjoying the journey.. Just thought I would pop back this week and say hi and pop around a few desks..

  22. Well done getting on with the paperwork, Julia. I'm afraid I've been sullying the creative with admin for some time now and still haven't finished. The only reason I do it and not my hubby is that I am slightly less worse at it than he is lol!! Your desk looks pretty creative, nonetheless.

Happy WOYWW and thanks for hosting us,

  23. Good morning Julia, and thank you for keeping us all in order.
Sometimes paperwork has to be dealt with, so if you had to do it on the creative space it is good that it is done with and out of the way so you can get on with Christmas cards with a clear conscience.
Glad you're seemingly feeling better. Good to have the old Julia back.

  26. HI Julia, I'm afraid that I too have to sometimes resort to that nasty but essential paperwork on my craft desk- booooo! And yes, I am also struggling with Christmas!!! Happy WOYWW Julia and everyone, hugs Carole Z xx #39

  27. Aah well it has to be done, the admin I mean and sometimes getting it out the way frees one up for other stuff. Definitely loving this un-christmassy weather but it's a bit chill today and I have already started closing the windows. Perhaps I was a bit premature thinking about an afternoon in the sunshine.. Happy WOYWW!!Cindy

  28. Oh, paper work is no fun, that kind of paper work, I mean. Maybe now, you can play! :) Have a great week!

  29. I know you have to be organised for workshops etc but it just seems wrong to be thinking of C....Ch....Chr.... See? I can't even bring myself to type the word..... ;-)
I shall get the refreshing mint juleps on ice so we can sit, fanning ourselves in the heat like two southern belles......well, I declare!

  31. Hi Julia, you are making me feel guilty now as I have avoided checking the bank statements for a couple of months or more!, no excuse just sooner be stamping LOL!
Hope you get the papers out of the way as quickly as possible and get the good stuff back on.
It may be teeny bit of Spain but it sure looks nice Julia.

  32. What a lovely sunshine coming in!! Makes paperwork a lot easier I bet! I was thinking of you on the weekend as I booked a trip for next year to Paris and a riverboat cruise to the south of France. They offered a 3 day trip to Spain (Barcelona) and I have been wanting to go, so I booked it! April will not come soon enough! Winnie #45

  34. Such a good idea to make Christmas cards early - I always try to make one every month, TRY being the operative word!
I hope you are feeling chuffed for clearing all the paperwork, job done so more time and space to craft!
Thanks for hosting us all and putting up with all the chatter, and glue, and ink, and ........

  36. oh no! there must be a law against filling in forms on your workdesk - only cutting and sticking paperwork allowed! But good for you getting through it, I always put it off until it starts bursting out of wherever I've stuffed it all - it's a great feeling when you finally tackle it though :o) Happy WOYWW, Annie C #54

  39. I know where you are coming from with insurance claims, steve had a heart attack and a triple bypass in San Francisco, two million dollars worth! Scary worrying if they would pay up.

I seem to have a problem with my blogspot, do you have any clues what is causing it?

  40. Hi Julia, Ah, paperwork - nobody likes it but it has to be done ... and it's such a relief when it is too! Just think of all the guilt-free crafting time you will have now that all the admin has been done :) Lovely to see your stable door open again this week though I don't know how you resist going out into the sunshine. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #63

  41. Hi Julia,

I hate paperwork - of any kind, well, except I guess the crafty kind! But that's paper without the "work." I kind of cheated and didn't show my desk this week; instead there's a photo of a happy baby boy wrapped up in the knitted blanket that I made for him! It's one that I ripped out once because I didn't do my math correctly.

    Happy WOYWW

  42. I do love the way you can let the sunshine in and look out at your garden, while sitting at your desk. I'm sure it must make the uncreative tasks a little more bearable. I admire you being able to think Christmas in July. I cannot do it!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Paperwork. Eurgh. I reckon you deserve a halo for that!

    As for the sweary C word - I'll pretend I didn't read that ;)

  44. I have mixed feelings about the sun in your photos. I mean I love the sun and I would love to have sun streaming in, but in my neck of the desert the sun is so harsh it dries ink pads, fades cardstock, and renders sticky things useless. So I always panic when I see the sun shining in on your desk. Then I remember the sun isn't evil the world over.

Good for you for getting the paperwork done. Now stop that responsible nonsense and get on to playing.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Getting paperwork done is not the top of my list either, but at least your sitting in a creative environment. If withdrawals happen, you can just reach out and so ever lightly touch your creative stash.......grin (ya, I know how that works)
    Have a great week
no linky for me this week, gotta get The Playhouse loaded for this weekend.

  46. Glad I'm not the only one to mention Christmas! And sometimes, you need to process the mundane before creativity takes over; not a fool at all; Have a great week.

  48. Hi Julia, Well I know what you mean..as I also am using my work/ artistic space as a ...dinner table... Yes I moved on upstairs to the sunlight of my kitchen dinning area and I
threw an old blue tarp over the wooden table, we use for our meals, and made it my art table in the in-between times. makes for a lot of hassle to un-tarp for meals and if company pops in ...but I need the light up here. -Kat-

  49. Darn those claim forms! I absolutely cannot stand dealing with business papers when there are fun things to make and do! So I hope you can get that all out of the way and make a path for the good times. Your desk looks quite tidy in spite of it all, and the most important thing is that you are well and healthy and up and running! Hugs! Sandy Leigh

  50. You are so right that insurance and taxes are a snooze fest, but so important. One realizes that if they don't get done properly!

Hopefully now it's back to creating. :-)

Thanks for stopping by my blog earlier and for the nice comments.

  51. Perhaps you should send the forms back with bits of glue, glitter, and pretty papers stuck to them it might make some one feel a little happier in their work and look at your insurance forms in a favourable way lol or then again they may just think WTF !! (sorry)x

  53. I feel bad that I didn't play this week. I even had a photo taken. Then I couldn't get online again. For TWO days, even. Not a whole lot of fun. Sort of like your insurance forms, but more stressful. Hope you're having a great week, and feeling much better.

  54. Hi Julia,

I honestly thought I had left a comment on here but I was exhausted last night and was in bed about 1 am and really wasn't much coherent before that. I know Christmas is coming very fast in fact I was starting to plan Christmas with my staff. There is also the charity packing of Christmas hampers not that far down the track. How about you just push that stuff to the side and do what I did this week, hey it has worked for me. LOL although the OCD part is just about bursting.

    Have a great week

  57. I'm too busy avoiding the stress of school returning in the fall to work about Christmas! You have inspired me though. I am not a card maker so wondering if I could make ATC's instead? Does the group exchange cards? As for getting paperwork done in lieu of creating,it must get done and sometimes by getting it all done it signals our brain that now it's time to play and you can go create. I hope this happens for you!

  58. I too have a load of boring paperwork to be sorted again. It seems only a couple of days since I did another marathon of that kind. Hopefully it will soon be done and your desk can return to its proper purpose. Good to see you recovering steadily. Keep it up and don't doo too much too soon as you feel increasingly well. xx Maggie#80

  61. Very diligent of you to get your paperwork done, especially with all those crafty supplies so close to hand! I've never done Skype, I'm such a Luddite that I keep a piece of painter's tape over my laptop camera just to prevent an accidental exposure somehow. I have mad accidental skills, so better safe than sorry lol.
