What’s On Your Workdesk? Wednesday 539

Welcome to October, gentle Desker. And that is all I have to say about the passage of time. Now, through a haze of dust, electrician work, dust, brick cutting, dust, plumber work, dust, moving furniture, dust and planning, I bring you an alternative view of the chaos. Please don’t say too much about what a good idea using a dust sheet here and there could have been. I wasn’t there. The noise drove me out, and look - *pouf* no door to the outside, so a new angle!
I didn't say it was a better angle! So thats what we call the workroom, hence the Workdesk!  The door at the back is nothing more interesting than access to the garage and this missing door will be panelled to form part of the wall in the new room. The workroom will have a window or door in the wall at left. AT SOME STAGE. Meanwhile, the days of natural light on my desk are looking a bit numbered!
Show and tell, do. We wanna see what you’re doing and read about it too! Thank you very much.

  1. it's always interesting to see something so familiar from a different angle... perhaps I should try that myself next time (although that will mean scrambling behind the piles of stuff that are in the way so maybe not...) I agree, we are about to enter the months of artificially lit desks... boo!!

  2. Morning Julia. Yay!!! It's me - yes, back from my gadding, sleeping in a big bed now, back in my own home. What a fantastic time we had last week - such fun - all that talking, lunch and cake. Thank you. Your room is looking a bit beleaguered - threats of losing its light... Having had an enormous extension on our house once, yes, I understand about brick dust - gets in everywhere doesn't it? Dust sandwiches are de rigeur in some circles, you know!
Take care young lady. God bless.

  4. I'm feeling your pain Julia but it will be wonderful when its all finished. I must say I am very envious of all those workmen to hand as I stare out at a pile of decking under soggy tarpaulin in need of relaying. Hang in there lovely.. there's light at the end of that tunnel. WoywW Hugs Tracey (5?)

  7. Blimey, it's going to berry different isn't it? I don't envy you having to get the dust off all that. It'll all be worth it in the long run!

  8. I’ve become immune to dust during the several building alterations we’ve lived through and now I’ve made it my friend 😀 I love the view from the other side today....things look to be really moving along for you. It’s so exciting so befriend that dust and enjoy the change.
    Hugs,

  9. I’m sat in bed in our freezing cold caravan in the Lake District. To go from one room to the other is painful so I’m staying put until the living room warms up. I love mr winter clothes Julia but can’t be doing with a cold room. I’m a right softie. Off to meet another equally lovely Julia today and the sun is promising to come out so all should be good. Keep thinking about the end results of your alterations and all will be well xxx

  10. Love the view from the other side today. I’ll never agree to any more structural work being done in our house-the kitchen extension 13 years ago nearly broke my spirit. Our young neighbours are building an enormous two storey extension on to their bungalow and I had to go out on Saturday and Sunday due to the noise of the nail gun!! Looking forward to seeing yours when it’s done.x

  12. I have never been through that kind of construction so I don't have a clue what you are going through. But I imagine it is difficult at best. Hang in there, it sounds like it will all be worth it in the end!

  13. Hi Julia, looks like it must be that time of the year for alterations though I am not looking forward to the mess but I'm sure it's worth it in the end. You may guess that you're not the only one that is expecting chaos but mine wont start for a couple of weeks so you can expect changes will happen in the workplace soon. However for now all is peaceful. Hope your plans go well and wishing you a happy woyww, Angela x15x

  14. Loving the view from the other side of your desk... makes a change! You will miss that lovely natural light when it goes. I completely understand about the brick dust, it doesn't matter what you do to protect your things, dust goes everywhere. Good luck with the next stages. Happy WOYWW. Love & God Bless, Caro x (#12)

  15. It's nice to see your room from a different perspective for a change! Hope the building works won't take too long - they're always such a hassle, but of course all worth it in the end. I would sneakily push the boundries of my craft room into the other room!

  16. Having work done is always exciting even though it always takes longer than you think, the noise can be AWFUL, there is always a moment when you think - why? Did? We? - and you won't remember the chaos once it's done. Really nice to see a different angle, that's quite a large room. Happy WOYWW Cindy

  17. Hi Julia. I am still recovering and I'm removing dust from the new windows/ bathroom from last year! I feel for you, I went out and electrician went into spare room - where I'dmoved everything to, into the roof space - I just wanted to curl up, in ball and cry when I saw it all.
Having decorator in next week - well two lady decorators - had to wait ages for them to be free. So we in ABIT of Ames's again but nothing like last year or you! Anne ( forgot my number - about 18? :-)

  19. Oh dear Julia, your room from reverse angle is not the same. I wonder what mine would look like if that happened.. mm??
My desk faces a wall with windows on each side. Plenty of light so perhaps you’re going to have enough even if not over desk as before.
Feel for you with dust etc but twill be so good when done!!! I’m wayyy late again. Next week we’ll be on daylight saving again which will help and you’ll be off yours soon too so that will help a lot. Off to bed...
Happy WOYWW. Thanks for sharing, Shaz in Oz.x #18

  20. Hi Julia, sooo if you lost the doors, are you getting a new door there or windows? ( I am not sure) but, since it has been freezing here at night the last week or so, I hope they had something in place before it got dark that night. ~Stacy #23

  24. What a surprise this morning to se the view from the other side of the room - didn't think that would ever be possible. Won't in my case as I have finished with building work or alterations of any kind (newly fitted bedroom takes the blame for this bad back). Unless I can move out and live somewhere else whilst it goes on. I am sure your will not have the same bad luck and it will be all well worth it in the end.
Take comfort in the knowledge that most deskers will lose their natural light over the next few weeks and when spring comes around you will have a new window and whatever else you need. Can't see Mr D leaving you squinting as you craft.
Thanks for the lovely words re my back, no call from the DN's so the surgery has sent another email and I have got a direct number to ring first thing. Can't think what to use instead - wheat bags are just the same as hw bottles to use so a combination of Chas's hand doing a gentle massage above the plaster and the tablets is all I can ask for at the moment. Ah well, I knew the perils of falling asleep.
    Hugs to you

  25. Hi Julia, sympathies re the dust, etc., and more dust. Oh no, I thought when I read that about no light until you reminded myself that I'm here in Scotland where we have no natural light to speak of six months of the year, and that's with a window! Daylight bulbs and lamps are the answer. Have a great week. Hugs, Elizabeth x #22

  30. I came for a quick visit to your blog - see your workdesk (dusty indeed, good luck with all the work, I hope peace will return soon in your house!) and wave hello. Sending you a big hug and hope you have a dust-free (or 'door closed', if it's there already) and quiet and relaxed weekend! Hug from Holland, Marit

  31. Thank you for your comment, Julia - sorry to be so late in the day with my WOYWW comments this week. As usual I've been alterately very busy and then exhausted (I'm no good at pacing!) and I've now got a cold which isn't helping... Anyway, the cement balls are for adding texture in mixed media work - you stick them down with gel medium and paint over them. I was hoping to get some larger ones as well but these were the biggest ones they had. They do seem to have sparked a bit of interest haha! Yes, I had a brilliant time at the show. I really ought to get really disciplined and for every new thing I bring into my room, I should clear out something old that I'm not using, but somehow that never happens. Looking back at the room when we first moved house and I got it established, it looks so neat and tidy and uncluttered! Those days are long gone, I'm afraid.

The bleach pen I got on Ebay last week is filled with Chlorox, which is supposed to be a more concentrated form of bleach than we get here in the UK, but unfortunately, so far the results have been equally disappointing on the teabags. I am coming to the conclusion that to get the effect I am looking for, I'm going to have to go down a different route altogether. I hate giving up on things but maybe an alternative approach is the answer. Thinking cap firmly on Shoshi's head at the moment. Meanwhile, the slippers are coming on apace and will soon be finished. I developed a cold over the weekend and haven't felt up to much other than cuddling up with the kitties on the recliner and doing my embroidery, so the slippers are nearly done.

    Happy very belated WOYWW,
    Shoshi #30
