Well, I was up anyway

Rather than a list of uninteresting trivia about me, let me thank Vicki and fulfill other obligations for awards by telling you about another of my erm, unusual characteristics.
Since Mr Dunnit built an extension on our house and we moved into our lovely new bedroom, I have made it a mission to make it light proof. I really, really like to sleep in the dark. He laughs because I find the glow from the clock-radio an irritation - honestly it gives a green tinge to anything within about 8 feet of it and that is not what I call a calming light! We have blinds, and when the clocks change, each night I put something on the window sill against the bottom of the blind to prevent any chance of it bowing and letting in a chink or indeed a great swathe of daylight (anything, t shirt, book - something random so he doesn't cotton on and laugh at me - so far so good!). Since I became a mother (and we're talking 16 years here interweb), I can hear my child's regular, sleep breathing from approximately two countries away. So if that changes, I'm up and administering before my eyes are properly open. I like to sleep and I like to sleep undisturbed and deeply. I think you get the picture. So how come every time the clocks go forward into Spring, I forget about the dawn chorus? Man, I spend 50 weeks of the year protecting a large hedge full of birds from neighbourhood cats so that all they can do is sing and practice at the top of their lungs - on my window sill. How very offensive. Especially the one that makes the sound of a dripping tap. By the time my subconscious has registered it, I need to erm, visit the bathroom. And then I'm properly up because the floor is cold and there is light leaking around the blinds and making its way into my eyes from every direction. Gah. So on morning number seven of this torture, I thought I'd get up, knock out a couple of cards that have been on my mind and tidy up a little. I poured a coffee, logged on and realised I could whinge in type. Aren't you glad that it's not you that we're scheduled to visit for the day!
The photo is another page from the '12 of 16' album, and oh do visit Vicki if you have a chance, she is amazing with a piece of 12 x 12 and a photo, why she passes awards to me is a mystery.

Oh yes I love absolute dark too - got a blind with blackout material and once a friend stayed at my house and she said it scarred her to sleep in my room because it was sooo dark! I made a little piece of card to put infront of the digital display - perfect darkness.

You are so funny Julia - you should be on the stage - I call it observational comedy as you observe the stuff that some of us alrady think and readily agree with ROFL...

Shall I send you some eye covers and earplugs???

I think the hearing becomes more acute with the birth of the first child ....now mine are grown up, at night I hear every paw padding and meow from the cats ....how sad. Light doesnt bother me as its dark when the eye lids are shut lol
Having said all that ..it is my son who wakes to every rustle or uneven breath of the boys, while Emma can sleep through a hurricane

I am definately not a mornng person, and if I don't get a goodnights sleep!!!!On the other hand when I wake up no matter how early I have to get up I can't stand lying around waiting for everyone to get up with their demands of then day. Unless of course its Monday-Friday when i just don't want to get out of bed, I wonder why!!

Know what you mean about the alarm clock - mine is the same and I have to stand my tissue box in front of it or it wakes me up in the night!!! Course, when I want to see the time , if I am awake in the night, I have to shuffle the box around so I can see the clock - often knocking something off the cupboard.......need I say more!

I think you will have to live with bendy Bob as he likes real darkness and i like a bit of light so can tell the time from my alarm clock. If it is light he is usually up and about and then kindly wakes me with a cup of tea later when I can take my pills and start my spine getting into its position for the day!!

Oh I am totally with you on the sleeping part! I have a blackout blind .... that doesn't and sleep with an eye mask and earplugs. I try and go bback to sleep if I wake early, but usually my brain starts with the 'what day is it?' 'what are you doing today'. So anytime you wanna whinge and moan about the light, the birds or the fact that your husband breathing is keeping you awake (yes that's what I used to say), I'm with you 100% xxx

Ha, ha, ha I have no problems with it being light as my problem in the night is having hot waves (high summer temperatures!!!!) and going to the toilet a few times in the night and then well is it worth going back to sleep??? Still when it comes up to 5am that is the time when I could fall asleep while listening to the blackbird but then of course the blast of the alarm destroys all my dreams! So I guess Julia we all have our sleeping problems!

Dear Lady Julia, me thinks you need a "sleeping chamber" LOL

Now me I could sleep with a spot light shining in my face :) but I understand the need for total darkness as Trav is the same as you on that one. Loving your LO! you really should show us your scrap booking more often! and it's a brillant photo really shows how close they are!!

Dear Julia - thanks for the giggle. Don't hate me but I can sleep everywhere - anytime - and (dont tell hubby) with anyone actually - as long as all we have to do is sleep... LOL
Hope you manage to strange the bird with the dripping sound - that is NOT nice. Thanks for your visits and comments - and don't worry - these were mulberry roses - NOT handmade - but on April 14th I will show a VERY handmade card I think you will like. =0)

Juie- great story. I am a light sleeper: when my oldest was 2yr old he had apnea and I realized it during the night when I heard him stop breathing. I was running full tilt down that hall- and had him into the doctor the next day. 80% of his airway was blocked by adenoids/tonsils soooooooooo hearing them is good news! Your page is beautiful by the way!

Great chuckle after a **** day at work, cheers, chum! I have some of this sussed - my bedrom has blackout linings and if I tuck everything behind the radiator, there is very little light. Also - if you get up and go to the loo without opening your eyes, then it doesn't count, and you can go back to bed. And, I have been known to sleep through a tropical storm in Ibiza where the lightening hit a palm tree that demolished half the next villa but one, and various club-pumping drum and bass something or other, yet, old as they are, one tiny sniff from my offpring when they are asleep and I wake up!

Hi Julia,

Thanks for stopping by my Blog (via Ikki's) and leaving such a lovely comment - it made my day!

I've been having a good laugh reading your Blog this morning - you are really funny. I can relate to so many things you have been talking about - like the: buy 2 sheets of paper - 1 for cutting & 1 for looking (which I'm now over too!). Hee hee - and I thought I was the only one who used to do this.........

Really love this scrapbook page - gorgeous!
